How big is your "carpet"?

i help a local enthusiast with his 600 gal tank. the focal point is his 30"+ gig, the top down view is nice to look at!

My Gig stretchs to an easily 20-22" when he wants too be a giant. Normally 18" I see always though. My mag is 15"

What a gorgeous nem right here!!!!

Nick, that is a really nice blue crispa you have there!:lmao:

Haha. :lmao:
Not sure if this is a joke. But most of us are so accustomed to seeing unhealthy gigantea that we think the tentacles are short. But in fact, a healthy thriving gigantea under the right condition is long and flowy.
Check out this thread. This is one of the best gigantea I've seen in captivity.

What's strange to me is that gigantea only seem to get those extremely long tentacles in captivity. I rarely see photos or video of gigs in the wild with such extremely long tentacles. Here's a decent example of what I'm talking about.

Sorry EC, if I'm hijacking your thread.

I'm not sure if I agree to that. Photos of wild giganteas are usually taken when the anemone is stressed under low tide. Either the anemone is exposed or has been exposed to air.
Take a look at the pictures on this site.

I know the site stated the tentacles are about 1cm long but if you look at all the photo, the giganteas in fully submerged water has tentacle much much longer than that!
Here are some examples.

IME it has something also to do with flow patterns. mine has gotten longer tentacles with good flow, but extreme flow and they or mine stresses and they shrink and the same happens with little flow.

Thanks
Conrad

I am also sorry for the hijack EC. Nick, those are some of the few example I've seen with long tentacles in the wild. Do you think that aquarium life is so routine that it allows the nems to extend their tentacles 24/7 and therefore never retract them for other variables like low tide, strong or weak waves patterns etc...?
