How did adding MH affect your light bill?

Hey all. I recently added a Hamilton 2 250w MH and 2 96w PC Hood... I keep the PCs on for about 10 hours, and the MH (along with the PCs) on for about 5 hours. I have heard nightmares about how peeps bills have skyrocked. How did adding MH lighting affect your bill? My bill should be here in a few days.... I am wondering if I am gonna have a heart attack when it gets here... its usually around $60 (thats even with the AC running 10-12 hrs a day!)

I am getting broker and broker... but tank is coming along nicely! My fish are gonna be living better than me soon! :D

With PC's my bill was $275.00 last month.
NO MH for me, T-5 on the new tank setup.
How much would you say ur bill was before that?

It all depends on where you live and who is providing you electricity.

SCE is sticking it to us now. they restructured their billing so that people who use the most are charged the most. Their calculations are kludge, making understanding their costs difficult

long story short. they have a basle line, you get that power cheap.

If you are 100% over the baseline they up your chages
if you are 150% over the baseline they up the charges more
if you are 200% or more over the baseline, you are pay through the nose.

My bill in May was $150 a month, that was me in the 150% bracket.
I upped my power usage and they changed their billing. My bill jumped to $504. I was in the 200% barcket.

To make things worse, in Janurary they are going to put the penalty another 50% for the 200% group, and 30% in the 150% group.

Is it fair, I am not sure, but it sure does suck for those of us who have hobbies that require power. I amy take up whittling on the poarch under a single Floescent light bulb on my rocking chair on the porch.

It depends on your local tarif. Cases were a significant increase in cost are more related to the user jumping from one bracket of consumption to another.

Say as an example, those who have a consumption of less that 1000 KWH per month pay $0.06 per kwh but those who consume between 1000 and 2000 kwh per month pay $0.08 per kwh and you were using 999 kwh and increased the consumption by an almost nothing 2 kwh then your new bill will be $80.08 (1001x.08) rather than $59.94 (999 x 0.6) for an amaizing $10.00 per incremental kwh in the super extreme case!

If you do not jump brackets the power increase is not that large, in your case your consumption will increase by about (2x96x10x30+2x250x5x30)*1.1/1000 = 146 kwh/mo and if you pay 0.06 per kwh your increase would be around $9.00

 Well their excuse is that if you consume more they need to invest in more equipment and have it idle waiting for you to turn the switch on so you have to pay for the additional capital...
Also they say that they have lower price for lower consumption assuming those are poor failies and elderly so they see it as a social service... Poor power companies they sacrifice so much and have so much idle equipment than when you turn the switch in Cal they need to shut you down.

I understand. Im gonna get reemed... I already know it. I just called SCE, and they said my bill went up $100 this month. Yay!!!
