how do i humanely kill or remove fish?

No anything you will feed to sedate or kill the fish like your suggesting will also kill corals if left uneaten. I think this goes without saying but did you have a talk with your girlfriend about why you don't ever do what she did?
 
If you just want to kill it. Make a mini Hawaiian sling. Crazy glue three wooden kabob skewers together and use a rubber band then go hunting. Probably easier at night.
 
believe me, that was my first thought, i wanted to jump my big *** in there with my sling. and yes there was a thorough discussion.

Unless in the 300 all the other fish were tiny, I'm hugely voting for disease of some sort. Might be good to stay fallow a few months take care of any ick you might have. (Though I'd think it was one of the more devastating diseases which I'm unsure how long they can live in empty tank.)
 
Pacify my curiosity please and tell me what fish were actually killed and how big they were...
