I would love to put a kole tang in my 90 gallon. I don't think a purple tang can thrive in my 90 gallon so I've opted for a kole tang. I'm speaking about the yellow eyed mole tang. According to live aquaria, adult colors depend on the part of the world where it is retrieved from. Can someone share with me how I can ensure that my fish will be blue when it ages??

I've never seen a "blue" kole tang, however, the adult ought to be burgundy-purple with iridescent blue in the face. A very pretty, underrated fish as an adult IMO.

I believe so. Different lighting may pick it up differently, and obviously size/husbandry will play a role.

There's no way to insure the exact color of your fish. There are too many variables- genetics, environmental factors, overall health, etc.

Also true. If you start with a specimen that's developing the colors you are after that will give you a better shot than blindly ordering a kole tang. If you see these fish in the wild, they all look the same. In aquariums it varies much more due to tank size, diet, lighting, water quality, etc etc.

The Diver's Den area of Liveaquaria is, hands down, the best. Sign up for email alerts for the type of fish you are interested in. :)
