how do toadstools grow?

im trying to find the best placement for my toadstool baby but im not sure how they develop as they grow.
does the base stem grow too? or just the leather top part?
any idea how big the base stem can get if it does indeed grow?
i wouldnt wanna place it up high only to have it poke out of the tank someday :lol:

They get really big. Everything grows on them. Give it some room.

haha definitely give it some room, check mine out in my 120... this pic was last July it's still growing!!!! Had this since it was tiny almost 5 years ago... it is now over 18" across and about 15" tall.

yes these corals can get to amazing sizes, and it doesn't take too long!

i only have a 10g...i have a 55 soon to be empty but i was hoping to have that as a lion head goldfish display, maybe that plan will change.
i placed it on the bottom center. i dont really have a spot i can find for it, i thought of up high on that right side rock that has nothing on it but it would be kinda close to the power head not sure if it can get sucked up?
heres the pic its only been in the tank for 10 minutes (it just came this morning)
a purple tip frogspawn in coming in the mail next week so i have to make sure i space these two far appart, which isnt easy in a 10g

This toadstool belongs to a woman in our local reef club.
This monster is about 24" acrossed when fully open!!!!
Largest toadstool I've ever seen.

ok well i relocated the toad, i did a switch-a-roo with my zoa's.
its in a much better spot that will be at opposite ends with the frogspawn
but... a small part of the toadstool is touching the live rock is this ok? its the leathery part. i know certain corals shouldnt touch live rock but im not sure about toadstools
let me know theres still time to move it lol

heres a pic of its new spot, you can see how its touching the rock a bit. i have one more question, will the toadstool attach somehow to this rock? its nestled in ok but as it grows i would imagine it could tip over right out of that rock. do they grab hold eventually?

It will grow on to anything that it touches. If the stalk lean over two rocks it will attach to both. After 3 years mine is 14" tall and about 10 " across in a 90 gal dis;lay.

These things grow in every direction....stump and all. Anybody know how big they get in the wild?
Here's mine before I cut and fragged it out of my tank last year. For reference the naso tang is 7 inches long.

I have been told that divers have seen toadstools as large as a Volkswagen bug in the wild....Hope tha thelps...I have one that has been in my tanks for 10 years and is around 14"..Really has not grown rapidly lately though....

If a toadstool is properly kept, and opens fully, it is one of the most beautiful corals. IMO.
These coral like water movement. I kept a rotating power head just above my toadstool, just enough to keep his tentacles waving in the current. He grew like a weed!
