How big do you let them grow before manually splitting them, and how long does it take them to grow that big after splitting? Do you target feed them?

Those were my next questions. Ive heard you can split them once a month but I may be wrong.
I don't go by the size of the nem, i go by size of the mouth. While bubbles can generate new mouths on their own, i prefer to cut each section so that it has some of the mouth attached. I have split 1 nem into 4 many times. Most of the time they are completely healed within a month.
I don't target feed, as they catch mysis and krill when i feed the fish.

Ok I think Im ready to start once I get a breeder containers or somthing but wondering the best way to get them off the rock. When I bought the tank a little over 3 months ago I remember them holding on to the rock and not letting go. Sugestions?
direct flow from a powerhead, ice cube, spatula. just be careful. you do not want to rip the foot. if need-be, wait until it moves on its own.

So blast a powerhead on it and it will losen its grip enabling you to take it off the rock? What do you do with ice cube; stick it in its mouth? Its on a fairly bumby rock and ones is under a rock so I dont think a spatula would work for two of them.

I have some containers that are a gallon and some that are 5 gal. so could I use those to put the nem in while it heals? How long does the nem need to be put of the tank? Does it need flow while in the small bucket?
you want the container to be able to fit in your display tank. the nems still need appropriate light and water flow. that's why i use the small breeder containers. they can take up to a month to fully heal. i will usually wait until they are closed up almost all the way and then release back into the tank. i don't wait until they are fully healed to release.

Ok thanks. I compleatly forgot about the lighting; duh. It only takes like 2 hrs for them to close up right? I use a PC light for my fuge I could put that over it temporarily in a 1G bucket and I have a spare korrola that is very small so I think im set but probaly will get a few breeder boxes here the next time I go to premium aquatics which is about a week to get some ro water (dont have a ro/di system yet).
i wouldn't recommend a bucket.

Ok ill just wait till friday or saterday then get the breeders. I dont realy want a fatality on my first go so ill wait. Thanks for all the help on this kingevil, its realy helped alot. Ill be sure to post pics some time on sat. or sun. or somthing.

Premium Aquatics a lees three way breeder and has two boxes and is basicly 4"-4"-4". Is that going to be big enough? They also have a net breeder that hangs on the side of the tank but the bottom is also net so I dont think there would be anything to hang on to but it is roghly 7in-5in-6in. Would any of those work?

That was just their web site and some times have things in their store that thet dont on the web. The nems are around 5in when their happy and full of water and one is a bit bigger and the other is a bit smaller. For some reason they are not as full of water as they were before but I was feeding them evey other day 1/3 peices of store bought shrimp to try to split them but decided to not do that and ease of a bit to 1 a week because I decided to maually split them. Right now they are more around 4-4 1/2ish. I was thinking the less breeders would be okay because they will be half their size but am wanting your opinion first before I do somthing stupid( like buy two yellow tangs for a 75G tank)

First of all I love anemones and they are one of my favorte things in the ocean. Ive only been keeping a reef for a little over three months but prior to that I studied what to do, what to get, and all of that and have a small freshwater tank for two years which I relize is much different. I also have a friend that has realy helped me through this whole procces and he has a overkilled 150G tank with all kinds of fish and corals. Im splitting anemones because I love anemones and would like one or two more in my tank. If in the future when I can get the hang of it I may sell them for 50 bucks a peice but I relize Im not going to make any real money anytime soon and will try to not rush anything. You probaly saw my two forums about making money; one with breeding clownfish and another with anything. Now that I look back on that I see why that was kinda stupid thing to do. Spliting anemones almost cost no money and seems fairly easy and if I can their is no reason to not make a few bucks well im at it but I am also doing it because it could just be a fun thing to do in spare time. Anemones to me one of the stragest yet coolest things in the ocean because they are just cool looking and bright , one of my favorte fish, the clown fish, are always in them and it neat how they split. Even if I do lose money at the start it would be worth it to get one more peice to this puzzle.

I hate this question.... yet I see it very often. I know people who have been keeping tanks for 20+ years and think Red bugs are not a bad thing for acros. Just because someone has more time in reefing doesn't mean they have better habits.
Not saying that Fish should be splitting his nems just yet, but how long he has been keeping a reef tank honestly may not have any bearing on that.
