im thinking about getting a small one for my 3 gallon tank if they dont grow very fast, then giving it away to a reef club member when it gets bigger. how long does it take them to get from about 1" to their full 2.5-3" size?
Don't even try buying anything other than a goby. It will die in such a small tank. You need at absolute LEAST a 10g. I keep my smallest ones in a 14g and I'm going to move them into a 34g in a few months. I'm going to move my pair in the 34g to the 28g with all of their anemones (so rocks, nems, and sand only) so that they'll have a perfect breeding tank and won't be bothered.
To answer your question though. There are alot of factors that go into Clownfish growth. If you want them to grow fast feed many times a day and keep the temperature up. To slow one down feed sparingly and turn the heater down. That being said I agree that tank is too small.
