You can see the white new growth under the mantal. This is after about 2 months in the tank. I use kalk for all my top off. How fast can I expect him to grow? Do they get biger in captivity. I read that this one will get about 9 inches.

looks like a crocea, so on average between 1/2" - 1" in shell length per year. once the clam reaches sexual maturity the growth will slow greatly. clams like anything else we keep in our tanks will not reach the same size potential as they would in the ocean.

HTH

How big will my crocea get? I have seen some larger clams but they are always a brown or goldish color. I like the bright blue of the crocea but want it to get large. Is there a blue clam that gets large?

the croceas grow to around 9".the larger clams are probably derasa(max around 20") or gigas(up to 4 ft).

As far as I have seen, croceas and maximas max out at about 6". Deresas hit 14", squamosas I can't recall but mine is a foot currently. Gigas...well they just get freaking huge.

maxima's can achieve 12" - 18" in size. :)

No. This is a shot of it from the underside. Kinda a weird angle. I wanted to show the new growth on the shell. My friend came over yesturday that hasn't seen the clam in a while and freaked out at how much it has grown. It is in the tank with my Elegance corals. The lighting is listed below.

These are a few more shots of my clam so you can get an idea of where it is in the tank. Sorry the pics are bad, they are from my phone. The clam is on a rock near the front of the tank. I took the original pic with the camera pointing up from below the front glass. Did this info help? It seems to be very healthy and growing like a weed.

For some reason I thought Barry told us that maximas generally hit 6" in closed enviroments but I can always be wrong.

my largest maxima is currently 7 1/2" - 8" in length and still growing :)
the gigas behind is about 16" - 17" for perspective
