How long do you guys run your photoperiod

Currently I have it on for only 6 hrs a day due to the hot summer. My colors are okay, but could be better. Would increasing the duration improve color and growth? Thanks -Mike

looks like i need to bump up my photoperiod. Has it been proven that longer photoperiod increases growth? Seems logical. How about color?

Do you feed your SPS? This will also help w/ your color problem . I feed everyday .

I feed about twice a week with phyto and oyster pearl. Do you turn of your skimmer when doing so?

fyi phyto won't feed your corals, it's too small, although it does feed other stuff that might feed your corals.

But if you have a small photoperiod due to the heat I'd stick with that, since its easier to get something back that lost a little color than it is to deal with high temperatures. Also you might try a reverse photoperiod (ie lights on at night when its cooler) although I wouldn't recommend this to anyone if its not really dark in the room with the tank during the day.

mines alot, actinics on at 7 am, off at 1, halide on at 1, off at 9, actinics on till 10

so its 8 hours of a 150 DE
and 7 hours of actinic

:eek2:

Wow you guys really sun bath your corals. 3.5 hours MH here 11 hours actinic. I get lightening at about 4.5 hours. ???
