how long to sell Ocellaris?

The two stores near me want all my fish to be ~1" before they will buy them. You may be able to sell them when they are smaller. It all depends on your market
 
The information that I've read says that you should not move the fry with a net because this will injure them. When I need to move a fish, I use a plastic cup. It's a little more work to catch them, but better to be safe than sorry.

That's the method I use in the lab. Who would have thought, a cheap sleeve of plastic cups from the grocery store counts has high end wet lab equipment :D

You should see some of the high end lab equipment I use: coffee filters, straws, Pepsi bottles, pickle jars, etc. lol ;)

I was using a plastic cup and made it through half the juveniles before they were moving in a school better than I could trap them. I got out a brine shrimp net and moving the rest, all are fine. I did this because mine are ocellaris, and appear to be pretty darn "tough". I wouldn't likely have considered it on other species.
 
Big al's near me offered me $5.00 CDN / fish. Another local store said $10.00. I have yet to recieve a penny from either one so we shall see when it's time to pay up.

I would think it really depends on the area where you live. I would suggest that you go to a few lfs in your area and just ask them what they would pay you for the fish.
 
Try reminding them that they don't have to pay shipping, and more importantly, your clowns will not have undergone major shipping stress ;) It also helps to feed them some cyclopeze to get them to color up nicely and bring some samples by to wow them with :D

I know in Toronto from what I hear there is a distributor used by some stores. How would I find out how much stores pay for their stock. I would imagine they are not paying for shipping as they pick it up.

I'm sure all of Big Al's shipments get shipped and not picked up at a warehouse
 
The first stores you should try are the stores you buy from! If you know who the owner or manager is and they know you, you should talk business with them. I agree with Bill regarding no shipping costs and no stress - also push your customer service! You'll deliver them when they need them, cherry picked, whatever it takes to make the sale.

I am well known at the store that said he would pay $10.00 for them. The only problem is I currently have 5 that are large enough to sell, but i'm about 2 months away from selling any more! So I would not be in a position to give him what he wants when he wants.

The trick to finding out what the wholesaler charges, is having a good enough relationship with a retailer, such that they would let you see a price list or at least tell you what they pay already. Keep in mind (you seem to know this already) that constancy in supply is important to any store. I don't know what wholesale prices run in Canada, but for the US I would call $10ea. a very, very good offer.
 
$10 per fish is a pretty good offer...sounds like that store owner recognizes the advantages. As far as the owners that aren't interested, in addition to the tips above, you may want to point out that they wouldn't have to order a minimum number of fish from you (many wholesalers require minimum purchase amounts.)
