My skimmer has been down for a week/apparently some frikin snail got into the intake-as of this am all is well with no major changes in chemistry. In the past I've had skimmerless tanks none as big as my current and not as heavily populated, anyways i've reduced my feedings to almost nothing till i get around to do a major water change and check my iwaki.
Any experinces with this out there?

when I was waiting for my skimmer to be finished I was without for 1 month. I did very large water changes weekly to compensate

6 months and my skimmer is still not hooked up. Damm I really need to get that hooked up already.

So dont worry about a week or two or three.

I would only be worried about the sudden change from skimmed to unskimmed. If you don't see ammonia in the short term, your only concern will be nitrate accumulation over time. Break out the test kits!

Um... yeah, going on 9 months skimmerless here as well...
Maybe I'll get around to upgrading my fuge and adding that skimmer this week. :rolleye1:

Just out of curiousity/I knew my fuge alage filled and rock would do the trick. Its back up today-there was 5 snails inside the intake.I put a strainer so I'm good.
