How many actinic bulbs?

My tank is 48x36x27 I have two 400w halides with lumenbright reflectores, and coralvue ballest. I ordered two icecap retro, vho 2 bulb kits. Will two bulbs in front and back be enough too tint the tank alot, or should I put four bulbs in front and back? Thanks

I would definitely consider getting two more VHO bulbs. I am sure two would colors things up nicely but I doubt you want to run those MH more than 5 hours a day. With the extra VHO you can put out decent PAR (depending on the bulb) and have your tank lights on for a total of 10-12 hours. The extra two bulbs would make a big difference when the MH are not on.

Another factor is what MH bulbs are you going with 10K, 14? 20?

With 10K you are going to need more actinic or blue. With 20K you wouldn't really need any actinic (then again if you want your tank lit 8+ hours its going to cost way more over the long run!)

I have radium bulbs 20k,so four bulbs won't be enough?I can add four in front and four in back for a total of eight
