Hello all I was wondering How Much Flo To get Chaetomorpha to Grow ?
I have a 57G with about 500 GPH through sump
Actualy maybe less I use Syncra Silent 2.0 Pump (568 GPH) - Sicce and have it dialed back for less flow to quiet the sump and overflow and use an MP10 for flow in the tank
I started with a golf ball size 2 months ago and I do not notice any growth ..using a clip on light with the spiral PC 6500K lamp lighting 11pm to 7 am

Thanks

You need a powerhead or spray bar to get it to tumble. However, tumbling isn't completely necessary so long as you flip the mat every so often to allow for good light exposure.

I will be installing my BRS Mini Reactor (with GFO/Carbon) and will use the same chamber the fuge is in so that will help flow in that chamber

Tumbling is not necessary to grow Chaetomorphy. Your flow rate thru sump is more than ncessary. I suspect your problem is either nutrient limited or light intensity limited. What wattage of CFL do you have? I use three 24W at 5000 Kelvin on a refugium of about 10G. I like the lower Kelvin number because it includes more of the red spectrum of which red & blue are required the most for plant photosynthesis.

It is either a 40 or 60 W CFL Spiral 6500 K lamp I have now

More than likely, that is wattage equivalent to incadescent lighting. I buy my CFL at Home Depot in 16W and 24W at 5000 Kelvin. The 24W bulb is rated to 1100 limanous. I think that your light is too weak if you are questioning growth rate after a couple of weeks. Borrow a PAR or lux meter and get a number that means the same thing to everybody.

Its not that's.

this weed grows in almost any light

it just needs food to grow, once the food is gone growth will slow under all these low wattage lights.

I have all different lights led grow lights, led floodlights, cf and growth is great even with a 13w cf spiral, until the food is gone.

Ok so it's a 5w 6500k 270 lumens lamp . Guess I will get a new bulb what should I get ? CFL or LED ? 5000k how may w ?

I run a 6500k desk lamp clipped to my stand and replace it every 6 months, works better than the $30 bulbs sold at pet stores for planted tanks in my opinion
