How rare is this?

Absolutely amazing and a real eye opener. What I find most intruiging is that despite the turbid water conditions, I haven't seen a spec of nuisance algae in any of the photos. I suspect that the water quality there must be really good, hence, really low phosphates. The mud must be rich in minerals but not decayed organics. Can't wait to see more.

Deep sand beds and constant water changes are wonderful things. :lolspin:

thats the thing you dont see nuisance algae on a healthy reef.you only see it on a sick or dieing one

Every once in a while we do find some nuisance algae. It is seasonal though. On our last trip out we saw two fist sized pieces of LR covered with red cyno. Very weird.

Out at the other spot we sometime encounter lots and lots of thick macro which makes it very hard to see corals and fish. But a month later it will all clear up.

Seriously, if I can make it there could I go out and see this? I don't want to take things home per se just see it in person.

Of course you can. Just have a look at the tide times posted before and plan your trip. We will even take you out with us.

Also, could you describe the water movement out there when the tide is in?

Depending on the tides it can be a huge amount of water coming in and out. 6 to 7 metres in 6 hours.

that is the sweetest hobby i have ever seen. (Im a pilot, scuba diver, etc...) I have seen many things and that is the coolest hobby ever!!!

do u see any sps where u go? so far all i see is lps and this is crazy u can cherry pick all the coral u want and save them also

There are some around. But nothing to write home about. I have heard above some with blue fluoro tips. Just waiting for my collector mate who was going to get me a small frag. :D

awesome thread!!

I am a bit north of you in Okinawa and get a few of the goodies that you are showing. The Scribbled angel though is a beautiful fish. Awesome pics. Must have been a really low tide. I usually find the carpets in 2-3 feet of water at our lowest tides.....yours were darn near out of the water.

Here's a pic of my Blue Ring experience. Of course it was returned without incident.
