How rare is this?

Glad to see that your are hard at work providing pictures for us again :) :)
Seriously, I am glad that you are getting on top of your personal issues.

Best of luck

Lewy,

I’m glad to hear from you again and hope your personal issues are solved soon. Regarding your new tank, maybe switching to an acrylic or polycarbonate be a good move? Or there are other critters that can eat these?

Might have to get an acrylic tank. Chances are you will get the worms again.

Love this thread hope for more updates soon.

First of all sorry to all of those who have been waiting updates. But I have had some personal issues the last few months and am slowly getting on top of things.

My new tank is a small 45cm cube as I lost my last tank due to leaks casue by some silicon boring worms. I have lost two tanks to them now and have decided to downsize my tank.

This will make it easier to drain if the worms strike again. It is on the backburner for now and I haven't even tested the water parameters yet as has been cycling for the past month or so.

So over the next month or so I will be reintroducing some of the old livestock kindly being babysat by a friend. When tidfes are right again we will be out and about looking for some nice smaller LR to aquascape it.

Sorry about the worms, would you happen to have a picture of this nasty worm for use all to see. Also have you thought about dipping your corals before acing them In the main display tank? I think this will help as well. Lastly I don't know your finances but at this point I think acrylic tank may be the way to go. I have never heard of this type of worm and sorry you have to go through this. I have been follow your thread for sometime now and I must admit I drool every time you post pictures. Thanks again and good luck

I read a little about the worm on you guy's website. That is one nasty and expensive pest to have in your tank.

No picture good enough to try to ID with. From the way they discussed, people (reefers) have tried and come up empty on ID.

This is amazing, on my first time of logging in, to see this in the wild. I recently found out that my near supplier gets theirs from the wild, but my local supplier gets them tank bred.
Thanks for, putting these on for ll to see, I live in England so would never see this.

OMG. Can someone hand me a napkin? I've been reading this thread from beginning to end the past 3 hours. Boy, it brings back memories. When I was a young child, I remember waiting for the low tides to be able to go out to the tide pools to play. I remember smooshing zoas and palys for fun and catching hermit crabs and breaking off sps to dry them. But that was 40 years ago!

God must be laughing, as now pay top $ for a tiny frag of things I destroyed as a child.

Lewy: my envy to you. Kudos for the accounts and photos. I feel like I know you having read the thread from beginning to present1 I appreciate all you do for us. As I was reading an image came to mind: us reefers are similar to corals and fish in our tanks awaiting your photos and postings for food!

In my HS year book, there's a section that classmates said where they see themselves in 10 years; I said I will be living in Australia, as I love coral reefs. Well, I've been there for vacation but not had the luck to find a job that allows me to immigrate there. Last time I looked, it's harder for Americans to move to Australia than Australians moving to the US.

Please keep on feeding us with your photos and thoughts....

Thanks for the links....I am not convinced that a worm mad a hole through the silicon, and that is a bristle worm just traveling into a hole that I believe is bad silicon. The reason I say the silicon is bad is if you look at it it's milky white. It does not appear to be applied correctly and the tank looks home made. There is more then one type of grade of silicon and the one used for this tank is not of the best quality. I would really like to see more pictures and close ups of the other sides of the tank including more of the corners near the top of the tank.
Thanks

These are not my pictures. There are silicone eating worms. I don't know what they look like and hope that I never ever see one alive, in my tank.
If I have this pest in my tank, the last thing I wanted to do is do observe and try to document the destructive process of this worm. Certainly not when my 340 g tank is about to sprung a leak.
Knowledge is great but my first priority is to keep my system intact and if that require killing a worm that have a 20% probability of been the pest, so be it. :)

do you know of any great must see spots on the GBR? around townsville to carins?

I am heading there for school in a month or so and cant wait to explore
