Hello all,
so Ive been trying to make shapes and more using SPS corals, specially the monti caps ...

in the past I have done mix of SPS and soft corals with great success, used to plant them on aquarium decorations ... like Xenia as hair for a skeleton :P (I know childish, but many like it ... )

so now with SPS, I have the ISsue of them growing over each other, or the stronger one killing the others and taking over .... so was wondering if anyone has any Ideas as of how to limit the growth of a SPS ? or how to burn aline between them every couple of days, ?was thinking of some sort of acid, so I can take the piece out, and use a small Qtip to make bordered using acid to kill tht section, and let them grow it again before I repeat. (hope that made sense)

so wht chemical do you guys recommend ? HCL ? bleach ?

thanks in advanced, and I am not about to kill corals, please do not get this post wrong, I just want to set boundries between two monti caps.

Just reading that made me cringe a little bit. Acid, Bleach?

I am with everyone else here, just frag the coral to keep a gap between the two.

^^^^^ +1 frag em. Just like when your prune back overgrown plants & bushes in a garden...same principal.

glue a strip of GSP in between every single colony in your tank

It will be like a little neighborhood with lawns seperating all the houses.

You could arrange a few aiptasia here and there like they were shrubs

Thanks all. I do not think I asked my question correctly, so let me try again :)

I am making Canada flag using monti caps. I placed a big disk in tank, with 3 frags on it, two red monti and one white at the middle. They have grown out on surface of the disk, and now the disk looks like canadas flag! Two plates of red, and white at the middle ...
Now, the white monti is growing on top of the red monti. So I would like to stop the white one from growing. So it won't ruin my flag !

Anyways, Im gonna try Kalk on a qtip to make the borders, see how it goes. It should burn a nice line on the disk.

I do frag the growth outside of the disk.
Thanks

Welcome to Reef Central

First off please do not judge our country by one man.

secondly...never have I ever seen a white monti.

Yes...poutine and our good hockey players. Who, no matter how stupid they look, still manage to line up the hot chicks.

Lol haha, well I guess you don't see what I mean, perhaps a pic could help.

The white piece is not really a monti, it white with blue polyps ... Dunno names.

Anyways, don't blame me, blame ppl who love these pieces and pay for them :p
If anything, I added creativity to canadas skill list lol jks

Are the buyers aware that they're going to have to continue to do this kind of thing to keep it looking that way? Or are they going to be on here later asking the same question you are?
