How would you break up these fish into two QT tanks? Triggers, Wrasses, Angels oh my!

Well after one night of being in the 40 gallon with the Crosshatch pair, the Potter's had no fins...

Had to move him in with the three Flame Wrasses. He seems happier now...

The flames are playing dead... normal? Will 3 small/medium Flames and a small Potter's be OK in a 20 gallon long?

The Crosshatches look ok, the male much better. The Female has some red marks on the back of her body and a dark mark on the upper back fin. Any ideas? Ammonia burn? Was going to start two rounds of Prazi and then start ramping up Cupramine. Should I treat another way given her looks?

Guess it's the chance you take buying straight from a collector. But I'll be happy if they shape up in QT.

Both the female trigger and the angel have damaged fins. If they weren't like this when you got them, then it's either the result from fighting or disease such as fin rot. The way the angel swims makes me lean towards fin rot. As to the wrasses, yes they do tend to play dead. As long as their eye balls are rolling while playing dead, that means they are fine.

I would hold off on the meds until the fish look a bit healthier, and are eating very well.

Crosshatches are already pigs. Eat everything.

What do you think is wrong with the female?

Flames moved a bit more...

Just looks like rough capture/holding/shipping. Keep the water quality pristine, and feed heavily, then start meds once she looks better, IMO.

Thanks Peter.

Can the fins "bruise", just want to make sure it's not bacterial or anything...

BTW: Saw two Flame Wrasses giving each other hell today.

Will the Male with two females in a 20 gallon long work? Are they just trying to establish an order or trying to kill each other?

Pictures? Sounds like you may have two males, which could be a bad recipe in a 20g tank.

It looks like the female ch is catching some aggression from the male...

top fin looks like a healing bite mark, 1 of my males has 2 of them right now...

lower looks like bite marks and her body has taken a couple hits...when my current pair was 2.5 inches, the male would really go after the female...I had her in an isolation box...

she also looks a bit timid while he is overly pleased with his area on the left side...

I would lock him up for a bit and let her get comfy, eat a lot, and allow time for her to repair, trigs do that very fast when conditions allow..

I would also not medicate, as others recommended...
observation is huge, re-evaluate in a few weeks.....

Good luck, they are beautiful fish...

Ted

Looks like this:

Male - Large has a lot of yellow coloring (Guessing a terminal male)
Female 1 - A little smaller than the male, all red. (Guessing male / sub male)
Female 2 - Small and red.

Found female 1 dead this morning all ripped up. Female 2 is being harassed a little now by the male.

Are terminal males more aggressive?

Thanks!

Female had the mark when released from the shipping bag. She is by no means timid, she's always out, more outgoing than the male.

They both eat like pigs, I haven't seen any aggression yet.

I did notice the male darts a little when he's close to the bottom of the tank and facing down. Attacking his reflection?

I started with Paraguard, just thought that with the fin issue Paraguard would help. I plan on doing it for 21-28 days to also make sure if ich is present it'll be wiped out.

Then I'll do 2-3 rounds of PraziPro. I just didn't want to start Prazi and have something like fin rot or a bacterial infection pop up and have Prazi in the water.

If one does aggressive, will it be obvious over the course of a few days, or more of a few minutes thing that would be hard to stop?

Female had the mark when released from the shipping bag. if they wer sold as a couple they were prob kept together....She is by no means timid, she's always out, more outgoing than the male.
this may because the male has her pinned outside his territory...she is skittish in the video and the male is overly content..

No reason to do anything yet...watch them for a few weeks..

It could get insane very fast...if you are not around, there is prob little she can do to defend herself...

Here is a video of him going at the glass...

What do you think?

Sorry for the terrible size / quality. Try opening in youtube and viewing a larger sized window...

Here's a video of the pair from a minute ago.

You can see the blotches on the female, especially towards the end of the video.

What do you think? Burns, Flukes, etc...?

Also do they look pretty happy with each other? Anything looking like aggression?

Thanks!

Here's a video of them feeding...

Female has a little bit of her rear upper and lower fins missing. No other sizes of aggression. Tail and pelvic fins seem fine.

Wondering if was just damaged fins are aggression.

Here's a video of feeding... do they look like they're getting along?

I see the male flashing around every now and then, but not towards the female. Normally the bottom glass.

Here is a screen shot of her fins upper and lower day 1 and today day 5.

If you notice where the "dark" areas are, the fins are missing now.

Aggression from the male or maybe bacteria / fin rot?
