how would you light my new build ??

What exactly are they upgrading? I looked at their PAR graph and the gen 2s look like they start out at a PAR of 850 opposed to the gen 1s 500. They lay out an area of 30x30 inches but don't discuss depth. The pros put out 950 which I can't see myself ever needing, but again, no mention of depth.

Anyone know?

Here are the true PAR numbers on the radions.

Ok truth be told I was sold on leds years ago just had to wait for the tech to come down into comparable price range and for the bugs to be worked out between manufacturer and consumers. I believe this has been accomplished. There I'd but one question I have left for those of you using them.with so many options and almost infinite adjustments how do you know which is best suited for your setup and then how do you knowwhere to Set them in terms of % output?

Ecotech has preset cycles you can choose from. You can also pick spectrums (12k, 18k..etc) and build your own. The intensity will depend on what you tank is used to. a 400w MH tank can start with a higher intensity compared to a 150w MH tank.

Thanks for the great post on the spectrum run Downs.. I believe I'm going to start with 2 of the Gen 2's and add a couple more over time or possibly fill in with strips along the outsides for some lower light corals... one last question, do you have any input on the "Ecoxotic" fixtures. ?

The Reefbrights were the best of the supplemental s that I saw. Of course the most expensive. The ecoxitic stunners, as I recall, were nothing special. Not much PAR value if any at any appreciable depth. The panoramics are way too bright in the white sectra. A friend burned the crap out of his tank using them. Undimmable LEDs are a force to be reconned with.

If you can dim them, that's great. But again you won't get great coloration out of them from what I saw. For a 96" tank you'll probably need at least 3 Radions. Qua-Ching!

Yea we grow'm big out here.. where abouts did you hunt. ? I know in time I'll need 3 of them but for now I'm just going to have a large centralized island so I can focus most all of the lighting there for now and expand later on..

I was out near Savannah Dhu, my boss knows Congel. It was the rut and deer were trying to get into the preserve. It was rediculous. the deer I saw running around driving out in the morning on the way to hunt were HUGE.

THe reefbrights ran really hot. I am sure Randy could chime in. I think they are used many just to give the coral pop. I think their PAR was super low.

So if I ran two Gen 2's for now over my main center stack what could I use to light the outer edges of the tank that look nice with out breaking the bank. ??
