I started in photography at a young age of 10 or 11 messing around with my dads Voightlander, how many know of a Voitlander? I was hooked then, my first SLR was a Miniolta SRT-101,with two lenses one of them a zoom, had my own darkroom at 14 devolping b/w, had that active till my early twenties. Then I went to Nikon F series at the end of that had 5 bodies with about 8 lenses from 24MM to 600MM.Sold all of that (should have kept some of that equipment). Then went Digital and chose Canon which leads me to present day.Mind you that I will be 49 in two months.Thats my story and Im sticking to it. LOL
here are a couple from my latest excursion the North Shore of Lake Superior MN.

Amazing shots bwest! What do you shoot with? My favorite pictures are the second and third ones. What are they?

I use a Canon Rebel XT. For lenses, all of the images were either taken with the standard 18-55mm kit lens, or a 70-200mm F4/L. Those are the two I pretty much take with me everywhere. Outside of that, I occasionally use my 300mm F4/L lens for outdoorsy stuff, and the 1.4x teleconverter is just nice for some extra range on the L lenses (Bumps my 300mm up to 420mm).

The picture with the red blue and yellow objects in it are actually ice cubes I made with food coloring in them. I then placed them on top of a white area of a pizza box, then let them melt into each other. It turned out pretty cool IMO.

The other picture I named "Electric Cherry" simply because it looked like a cherry to me, but it's actually a picture taken of an electrostorm ball. If you're not sure what it is, google it :).

I played with mom's kodaks & polaroid until I got tired of getting smacked for using them without permission.
I bought my first SLR somewhere around 1970/71, it was a Minolta SRT 101. I was around 12, had to mow a lot of lawns & shovel a lot of snow.
Active hobbiest, entered some photo contests, spent every spare nickle on developing, high school had a darkroom, did some of my own developing for a few years there, was yearbook staff for 2-3 years...went thru a B&W phase for a few years...bla bla bla
Age, mine & my cameras caught up, ( was working too much, my cameras weren't working at all) I doubt I touched a camera from 1987/8 - 2000, started getting the bug again, bought another minolta body Maxxum 5000 & played with it. Never enjoyed using it (the AF system) or got the quality of pictures I was used to with my 101
Picked up a Lumix P&S (I liked the Leica lens) about 4 years ago, that was my first step into digital, & I began lusting for DSLR
a month ago I caught a "can't say no" sale on the Canon XT, with the 18-55 kit lens & 75-300 tele zoom $649
I still don't know where half the features & functions are but am working thru it and having plenty of fun in the process.
I know the post processing (as well as developing in the olden days) makes a world of difference in the finished product & will have to break down & buy a photoshop program, but for now I'm still getting the feel of this & am loving it.
I've seen plenty of Dinomans work over in the lounge, that kid (No offense intended DIno) has talent & a ton of potential
Here are a few from the last month with my new toy.
nothing of the quality of whats been posted so far.
Critiques & suggestions are always welcome.
Thanks,
Bart

I have an elecrtostorm swirl thing. I'll be sure to post pics of it sometime.

Thanks for sharing bart, I never knew that a lot of people were into photography until this thread. Those fire pictures are really cool, that kid (your son?) holding those lolipops is funny. lol

And just what are YOU doing outside of the lounge?

You made sure nobody was following you right? I don't want anybody to find me!

I started in high school with a Canon AE1. Then gave it up. After a year trying to take decent pictures of my tank I began thinking about taking it back up.

Last December, my girlfriend and I went to Jackson Hole, through Yellowstone and Grand Teton. I dug out the old dusty AE1 and snapped 4 rolls (32 exposures ea) of film. When I got them processed, I had maybe 2-5 good shots. That frustration, plus the fact that we had a really good time, made me decide that me and my GF could enjoy this hobby together, (can't be bad for any relationship) so I bought her a Rebel XT and myself a Canon 30D and the end.
