Humane way to have a fish expire

Everyone,

I currently have an orange spotted filefish that suddenly stopped eating once she hit my DT. She declined to the point where I decided to put her back in quarantine.

It's been 2 days since she has been back into quarantine, has not eaten, is weak, and has declined to the point where I feel she is not going to make it. She is currently swimming like she is drunk and swimming in circles. I have done everything humanly possible to save this fish, but I am to the point of being realistic.

I don't want this fish to suffer, so what would be the most humane and quickest way to have this fish expire.

After the amount of time and effort I have spent caring for this fish...this is truly a heart breaking event.

Humane way to have a fish expire

There are a couple of ways of doing it. The most humane way is to put the fish in a plastic bag with minimum amount of water and smash it against a rock or any hard object. Freezing or clove oil simply make the fish suffer more.

What?? crushed to death? man that isn't an easy way to go.

Get clove oil, put fish into container... put a couple drops of clove oil in. Fish falls asleep and passes away peacefully.

I like the clove oil. But have never used any. I did cut a fish's head off when I was in high school. It was fast.

Sorry for the loss.

i agree that beating a fish is inhumane. you should try to reach out to people who might be able to care for the filefish. other than that, clove oil will work

Why not? Quick and painless right? Clove oil takes a lot longer.

Clove oil is not painful. Clove oil(at lower concentrations) is commonly used for fish dentistry.

If someone were to kill me(knock on wood) I would rather be put to sleep than be crushed.

Well those articles were an interesting read... Good luck figuring out what works best for your situation?

*prays I never have to kill anything*

It may be quick but that ain't at all humane. Lol

Anyway I've stuck em in the freezer. Slows metabolism.

The proper way to do it is to administer ms... Can't remember the actual name of the drug but it is much more effective then clove oil. (Need to dig mine out of a box for the actual name) have used it many times perfecting my force feeding abilities. Just over dose to euthanize the fish. Crushing the fish or freezing in a bad isn't humane at all

Lol at first glance I was like, yeah, smashing it only takes like .25 seconds,

Then the more I thought about it, the sadder I got.

I mean what if you miss, or what about those last thoughts the fish had.

Time to cry myself to sleep lol.

Having a baby has made me softer than a pillow

Smashing a fish maybe is distasteful, but it is humane. As I said early quick and painless. How many hobbyist have clove oil at the ready? Let alone tricaine?
