Yeah, these storms are nightmares for our reef tanks.

I sucked it up this time and bought a generator becuase the last hurricane I was without power for 4 days, and I was going nuts to keep my tank alive.

Some things I did to keep my tank going for four days without power:

Luckily, I found one battery powered air pump to use on my tank, but I also used a cordless drill with a paint stirring attackment, which I also think helped save my tank. I would just peridoically stir the tank with the drill and paint stirrer and it would aerate the tank. I think this was the tank saver in the end.

I also made a bunch of extra salt water and was doing a small water change every day with fresh water salt water.

To keep the temp up I was boiling water (luckily I had gas) and heating it up and mixing it with tank water to keep my temp up as high as I could.

All if this was a complete pain in the ..... but in the end I only lost one sps frag that was already doing poorly at the time and I didnt lose any fish.

This time Ill turn on the generator if i lose power lol.

The key is circulation, and a simple airstone will do the trick ;) I went several days without power after Bob by using deepcycle battery and 12v air pump, no problems. Naturally a generator is even better...get one big enough to handle your fridge and house heating as well the tank ;) Good luck with the upcoming storm, and stay safe.

I realized that I cant use LOUD genator cuz i live an apt area with patio (1st floor) so i need a quiet one i know Honda but $$$$

Im planning to do water RODI fill 5 gals (2) one ready mixd and one RO DI only. or am i doing too much ?

I guess deep cycle marine battery (where to buy CHEAP?) , wires 1.3mm jack to , to connect MP10, will it help ??

Thanks for tips !

Last year I was without out power for 6 days kept my tank going with air stones and I got a few power converters and a extra batter for my jeep . The batter was able to power 2 korrolla nanos for 12 hours, only cost me 80 bucks ... Good luck trying to find a generator now and if you do your going to pay an arm/leg for it

Jake. Grab these adapters from RadioShack and connect to your vortech.

Bought a 8000/1350 watt generator this summer on Craig's list...... Runs my hole reef and I can run my qt system to... Maybe I should rent it out....? Just kidding....would not want the liability....

Hey the best place to get cheap generators I found was harbor freight in bays shore with one of those 20% coupons....

Yay.

A friend of mine has one an extra I can borrow :) it's Yamaha 2000i and its pretty quiet for generator , say 50-70 db

So I can run refrig and fish stuff :) mines small tank, not much use electric, and AI sol blue :D

Thanks

BTJs' is carying the Deep Blue battery backup air pumps... dont know how much run time you get but they look pretty cool. Its like a UPS for air...

I went to radio shack and got converters for car battery to grounded outlets. Gonna go but a battery now. Any suggestions on battery and how long can I run a blueline 40 pump? How about an ecotech mp40?

Marine battery, deep cycle is better.

I was told not to bring car/truck battery in the house it's dangerous..

Looking for battery with sealed and lipped

I would suggest call around first to save gas :)
