Super Housemonkey!
My set up is located downstairs in our basement.
Great for cooling, not so great for pH.
When the AC isnt being used so much, I can keep the pH at about 8.3-8.4 no problem. When the AC is being used (pretty much from April to Oct since the wife has allergies), pH in the tank plummets to 7.85 over night and will slowly ramp up to 8.05-8.1 during the day.
When we run the attic fan, pH jumps up pretty easily, so I'm assuming that the basement collects CO2. But I'm unsure as to why using the AC seems to make it worse.
I could dose Kalk, but that will raise my DKH incredibly high as well. I dont have much sucking up the DKH and Ca due to the pH swings......vicious circle here.
I've been looking at HRV systems as a possible solution here.
We live in a ranch style home of about 1600 square feet with a walk out basement. The basement is partially finished with the tank on the unfinished side. We have central air, (meaning we have duct work already in place).
Summers in St Louis are hot and humid and winters typically drop down around 20-27 F in temp.
Would an HRV system help me out in this matter?
We do plan on turning the office in the basement into a bedroom eventually when the kids get older so an HRV system wouldn't be just for the reef.
If an HRV system would help, what brand/model would you guys recommend? Based on a graph on Broan's website, I'm thinking I would a unit that can do about 75 cfm for my house. Is this correct or should consider something bigger or smaller?
Any input would be appreciated folks.
Thanks in advance.
