Hybrid Angelfish authenticity questioned..

IS THIS A REALLY RARE KIND OF FLAGFIN ANGELFISH.. really need comment ASAP, if you know, how much is this angelfish should be ?

I agree 100%, if it is worth the price to someone that is what it will sell for. As far as it being a rare color form or a hybrid, I can't tell from the photos provided. If you think it is a hybrid, what other Apolemichthys species would it have been possible to breed with, and how common are the two species in contact to the point where a hybrid would be possible. It may be an aberrant color for this fish but it is not so different in the photos to make it worth any higher price to me, but back to Steve's point, is it worth the price for you? There are so many questions that without a lot of research you probably could not tell just by a couple of photos of a stressed (because of being moved as in the photos) fish.

I dont see any noticable differences when comparing the liveaquaria stock photo to the hybrid photo. Theres no marking, fin, or coloration differences at all. Just stress as noted, and perhaps a bit of the caudal fin missing?

The scales are completely different on the flank. The eye stripe is muddied/missing, as is the forehead dot. The purple lips...aren't.

Looks to me like a flagfin/griffis hybrid, if it was going to be one I'm no expert though.

Could just be a stressed flagfin, but the barely purple lips (ime they always stay bright purple/bluish even when stressed) and the dark scales through the body, prominently in the dorsal section, make me think it isnt a pure flagfin.

+1 The Armitage is basically a darker version of the flagfin which it gets from the cream angel cross. The dark head and eye is a dead giveaway of the cream cross. As to what it is worth, that is a good question and one not easily answered. The only benefit of this fish compared to a full flagfin IMO is that it is probably hardier, it certainly doesn't look as nice as a full flag but it is a fairly rare fish. Diver's Den had an armitage on its site for quite a while and they eventually dropped the price but it still sold for around $600 if my memory serves. Unless I was a rare angelfish collector I wouldn't pay a lot for this fish, you can pick up a nice flag for around $50 or less and they look better IMO.

You didn't just say you thought it was "x" angelfish... you specifically commented on comparing the photos. I thought it was funny, because to me, the photos are starkly different. Sorry for chiming in late... I just saw this... that fish is indeed a hybrid between Apolemichthys trimaculatus (flagfin angel) and Apolemichthys xanthurus (cream angel). They were originally described as a valid species in 1955 as Apolemichthys armitagei, but in the 90s were proven to be a hybrid in a paper by Jack Randall and Rich Pyle. So, while the scientific name is no longer valid, they've kept the common name of Armitage angel.
