Hybrid Clown hosting question

Hello

I have two RBTA's in a 125 gal with softies, mushrooms, rock flower nems and so far, three damsels. I am looking forward to adding a clown to hopefully take to the RBTAs, perhaps two clowns.

I have identified the clownfish that an RBTA typically host, and as I review DD and such, see that there are a lot of hybrid or designer clowns.

Have any of you run into problems with these hybrids being hosted by RBTA's? I see that the species seems to be the same but wondered if the designer aspects create issues.

i had snowflakes (ocellaris) and picassos (percula) in the past all of my clowns have went straight into the BTAs without hesitation.

This is very unusual. Ocellaris and Perula often take sometime to go into BTA, if at all. I would chose species that naturally host by BTA. You don't really see what this relationship is all about until you see the clown fish in his natural host.

More so. Lighting Maroons are WSM, they are more aggressive than GSM.

Good to know. Sounds like the hybrids are different in color and patterns only, same personalities, unless there's a mixed-species, does that sound right?

I think your posts are a little vague for people to really to chime in. Is there any specific hybrid or hybrids you are considering? Lightning clowns are not technically hybrids because they do occur in the wild and are hosted by BTA. I understand that some lightning clown broodstock consist of lightning and white stripe maroon clowns but I am not convinced that would be a hybrid clown. For example, would a wild caught Picasso clownfish and true percula clownfish offspring be considered a hybrid? I think not because both are Amphiprion Percula.

Yes, I think you are right, I probably need to be more specific.

I need to do some more research also, which I am just starting (obviously).

I intend to add clowns that my RBTA will host, or most likely host as nothing is guaranteed, and it occurred to me with the hybrids or designer clowns, that there may be an issue with attraction to a particular variety of anemone given the mix with the gene pool, so thought I would ask to determine if this was something I should look out for as I research--like a general rule.

I understand that BTAs naturally host clarks and maroons (and others that I am not interested in) so I will start there and determine if there are varieties I am interested in, and then maybe revisit the question.

If you want something not commonly seen in the hobby you can try:
1. Latezonatus (wild caught ones are $$$$$)
2. Chrysopterus
3. McCullochi
4. Tricinctus
5. Akindynos
If all of the above fall into your "not interested" category then Lightning Maroon would be a nice addition for a 125 gallon tank.
