Guys,

I started the Hyposalinity process last night. One of my fish (Hippo Tang) is badly infected. Do you think I should do a freshwater dip to kill the parasit on his skin and gills quickly?

Or simply take a chance of him going through the Hypo process slowly?

He could die before I can get the SG down low enough, but maybe not....I am stuck and need your advice.

Based on what I read today, if you think a freshwater dip is the way to go, a freshwater dip should last between 1 and 5 minutes. If you agree with this, please let me know.

Thanks

What are you trying to cure?

FW dips only works on marine velvet and flukes. It does not work for ich. It also doesn't kill the parasite, only dislodge it from the fish's body.

Hypo only works on ich, not velvet.

Hi LargeAngles,

I am trying to rid the fish of Ick on his gills. I know it is not a cure, hence why I have started the Hypo treatment.

I read on another post that a quick freshwater dip, can drastically help the gills, while you try and reach 1.009 SG.

I would just wait for the Hypo to take affect. Diping your fish will only stress it out more and cause more harm at this point. He should be fine with hypo.

He is doing much better. Thank you. I thought he was not going to make it, but he hung in there. So far so good.

My yellow tangs on the other hand have not fared so well. I have lost 3. What is weird is they were doing fine, and then one day decided to swim upside down. The SG isa fine, and other parameters are ok. This was probable a result of a secondary infection....no sure....man I have hard such terrible luck over the past 6 months its crazy! Hopefully my luck will change!

Yes, and he is now perfect. I had to do it twice over 3 days.

He is eating well, swimming normal, and getting stronger all the time. I thought for sure he was not going to make it. SG is 1.009 and holding. 6 weeks to go!!

My yellow tangs are not doing so well. I have lost 3, but another 3 are hanging in there. Getting stronger each day....so far so good.

6 weeks AFTER you see the last spot on any of the fish..if you see one pop up, you have to start the 6 weeks over
