I am so sick of hearing about global warming

Now when I say i am sick of hearing about global warming dont think i am being inconsiterat to the environment, I love nature and every living creature except spiders and mosquetos. Any way the polar ice caps have been receiting for millions of years ever since the peak of the ice age it has all gone down hill since then. Also all of us being from Chicago know that lake michigan used to be a glacure it carved out a crevice melted and left a huge body of water. Proving my point that the polar ice cap used to be where we stand right now. Now it has recieted all the way through wisconsin and Canada and every body is complaining that global warming is killing every thing, like I said we have been having global warming every since the day after the peak of the ice age. Also this is one of the coolest summers I can remeber. Several weeks it has stayed in the low 70's and even droped down to the 50's at night, at my house half the time we dont even need the air we can open a window and turn on a fan just so it doesnt get stuffy, the other half the time we turn on the air because it is humid not hot. Only just a few times this summer it has cracked 90 degrees maybe 3 times and we are in what is supposed to be the hottest part of summer its not bad at all if you take away the humidity. To prove global wariming I want all power to be shut off around the world for a week then if it drops 10 degrees i will believe it is caused by humans and i will join the fight against it. Maybe humans have accellerated it a little bit but people are acting like the ice has been melting for only the past 10 years when maybe they should try 10,000,000,000 years.
Thanks for listening and please put what you feel down below

Uh oh. Here we go again. This ought to become an interesting thread just like the last "global warming" thread :) .

Why would I take the time to read anything that you write when you obviously have no respect for the people who may want to read you? Use a dictionary or spell check and bring your point strong. By writing like at third grader, people will take you exactly as that and ignore what you have to say.

So you're basing your opinion on global warming based on the the past few summers in Geneva, IL?

Somehow, I don't think that data sample is representative of the global averages of temperature.

Personally, I like to leave this topic to the experts with all the research and education to back it up. But that's just me. This type of conversation is no different then arm-chair quarterbacking on Monday morning after the big game.

Global Warming is just that, Global. Cooler temps than you "remember" for the last two months in Chicago is not a good argument.

We watched Tom Brokaw's special on Discovery and I will quote one of the many disturbing stats...

"Of the top 20 hottest years on record, 19 have occurred since 1980."

The effect of Global Warming on our world's reefs is scary. Warmer waters, more frequent and widespread bleaching events, extinction...

that is ridiculous. do you really think your experience this summer disproves what the overwhelming majority of scientists believe????

this really isn't even worth commenting on........

It is always better to keep your mouth shut and let every one "think" that you are a fool than to open your mouth and prove it.

Hey guys, let's not bash someone just because they're expressing thier opinion.....

I wanna know how long "on-record" is?

take it easy folks, Drew is just a 16 year old kid, we all remember that age?? ;) Actually I'm 30 and have a hard time remebering 16. Great, now I feel old. :D

Drew, even in an ice age, the planetary energy budget remains roughly the same. There's a lot of cold and a lot of hot all the time, but in an ice age or cooling episode, the concentration of heat and cool shift. The north gets VERY cold and the equator gets VERY hot.

Now, if the oceans warm too much and too deep, there's a thing called hydrate, a frozen compound buried deep in the mud of the ocean shallows. If THAT stuff thaws, we might see a Permian Event, which would devastate the atmosphere. Ever been to Georgia or Oklahoma, northern Australia, or elsewhere in the Red Earth belt? Permian clays are strangely bright red, caused, very probably, by a previous meltdown of the hydrates, and a profound change in the atmosphere, which turned nasty. It caused iron to bind down, which is your red color, and it took many human lifetimes for life on earth to pick up again.

So we really don't want to mess with the hydrates.

And we really don't want to shut down thermohaline convection.

Google those words if you want to learn what's at issue.

I appreciate your position as a 16-year-old being told the world is doomed. I grew up under threat of the H-Bomb and the C-Bomb [cobalt], and world leaders almost crazy enough to use them---so I know it's pretty scary stuff to be told you have no future, and it's a lot easier to yell, "Wait! You're all full of it!"

But we dodged the thermonuclear bullet in my generation, and I'm pretty sure we're going to dodge this one. Lest mankind get too cocky about ruling this planet, all it takes is one big volcanic hiccup and a dust cloud and we'll be coping with a cooling event for the next few years, but what it does point up is that we can't go on dumping the entire stored biomass of the Jurassic and Triassic [oil] into our atmosphere and expecting there to be a free ride.

We'll live. We just have to do differently than we've been doing, and your generation, like mine, is just going to have to determine that we've got to invent and negotiate our way out of the same-old-same-old thinking that's gotten us into this mess.

Hey Geoff, I didnt know you moved to IN. Whatz up?

We wondered the same thing while we watched the show. I dont know how long that time period is. They spent some time explaining how scientists measure the amount of CO2 in ice cores to determine the actual temperature of past centuries. I won't bore you (no pun intended) with the details, but the temperature has gone up & down for millions of years, so colder or hotter decades are common. However, I think this is generally localized peaks & valleys. Whereas the avg global temp and the avg global water temp have been steadily increasing and that is what worries scientists. Even if we are only talking about 1800's to present, these are global changes.

AuroraDave...Yep...moved out of Aurora and now live in Granger, IN. It's too frecking expensive to live in Chicago. And, we got sick of all the noise, traffic, people, taxes. And, my wife's family is closer.

Now, I live in a larger house with half the mortgage and much lower taxes. I was paying $6.5K - $7K in taxes a year. Now I pay < 2K. Kids actually have a backyard to play in.

Traffic...I drive threw cornfield to get to work, and have to contend with a stop sign or two. My job is great and my pay is about the same compared to what I had in Chicago. Cost of living is MUCH more affordable here as well.

And....now...I can AFFORD this hobby (Sorta...) !

As a diver for the past 8+ years, I can tell you the reefs are dying. There are way less fish & lots of bleached/dying corals.

I don't think any but the kookiest argue that it's not getting hotter. I think the argument is over the cause of the heat. Then again, it's hard to tell with such charged issues.
