I can't beleive that I've got another giant worm !!!!

I have the same worm. Only he broke in half sometime last year. One part i was able to get out and the other is now still in the tank. Luckily he has nothing near him to bother but I will have problems getting him out. My guess is that he is about 1' long now.

Cheese and rice he is an absolutely massive worm... I do have a question... How does one miss something that large until it gets "that large" haha.????

HOw did he miss it? Have you seen his tank? Someone could drive a Ford Fiestiva into his tank and not notice it. LOL

You'll be surprised as to how well these guys can hide. They only come out at night.....and they stay covered within the rock. They are rarely out in the open....except for the head which is out in the open when feasting on rics or zoos. I figured that I had one again....and it still took me three nights of viewig to find him.....and even then, it was just a glimpse of his slithering through a small viewing hole in the rock.

marcel leroux......great catch.....even when that small, they can cause damage.

Mariner....good luck....at least you know where yours is when the time comes.....BUT, if their territory runs out of food, they will relocate to where you might not find him again.

I wonder how big they get in the wild?

I don't think I really want to know.:eek1: I saw a pic of a c. isopod from the wild. That was enough for me!!!

Do they sting, or just bite? I saw what I believe to be one last night around midnight and couldnt get my tweezers on it fast enough. Is there a risk of injury if I do happen to get ahold of it? Is it going to whip its tail up and leave me hurting??

I don't think they sting....never actually touched one without tongs....but, you'll never get it with tweezers.....they are just too fast and too strong.....and even if you could get a grip, you'll never get it whole.

I pulled a couple out in a tank changeover about a year and a half ago. I'm thinking they are why I couldn't keep any clams before and now they do great, just speculation though. Not nearly as big as yours Steve:

Thanks for sharing again.

Has anyone been able to put a small one next to a small regular Bristol worm? What are the distinguishing features?

I think one distinguishing feature would be the FIVE TENTACLES that come out of THE HEAD!:eek2: :eek1: :hmm4:

WORM 1 -- Mariner 0

Ohhhhh man! I went after the worm today. After getting tubs and buckets ready to put rock in, I spotted his head in it's usual place. Then, I carefully removed most of the rock on the left half of the aquarium -- leaving the last couple of rocks over his lair till last. I figured when I moved those, I'd at least see him scurry, but I saw nothing. I dragged tongs through the sand on that entire half of the tank, and came up with nothing. He could have been in one of the rocks I took out -- there are a million holes in this Fiji rock, or he might have slithered to the other side of the tank. Long story short, I came up empty, spent half the afternoon re-stacking rock and soothing my wounded pride.
I don't know when.
I don't know how.
But that worm is going DOWN!

p.s. Any advice?

*shudders*
Now, I usually try to keep my head about this kind of thing (worms, spiders, etc.) but that thing is just creepy.:eek2:
