These were from separate tanks in the same shop.
I am thinking at least 1 is A. chrysopterus but not sure as they are juvies.

Points to consider
1. with of second bar.
2. the smaller (darker one is developing a whit tail and a yellow dorsal.
3.No third bar
4. They were fairly expensive so hope that I did not get ripped off
5. apparently in a shipment from vanuatu.

The they are both Akindynos. Most of the ones we get over here come from Vantuatu It is the northern limit of their range.

Interesting, I hope so. They are in 80 gallon luxury qt and are being fed alot. Both seem healthy. fingers crossed.
However the top one has dark pelvic fins is this a concern on the akinydos id The darkenss does appear to be fading.

id have to disagree, phil. i think both are chrysopterus. the top one for sure, the second one, if from vanuatu, could have come from the tanna region. which typically provides the duller, browner chrysopterus variety....

The guy who sold the to me is an anthias nut and doesnot really know his clowns. He sold them as blue stripe clowns(aka a.chrysopterus) but was far from sure, however there is only the slightest hint of blue on there stripes. But the fish are only 1 inch and 1, 1/2 inches respectively so the colours may not be vibrant yet.
I had narrowed them down to either of your two suggestions but cant really decide you both know youre clowns well so its a toughy. As long as they are both not clarks then they will be the only two healthy specimins of these species I have seen in thailand in the last 21/2 years so I am relativey happy.

I'd have to agree with Phil.

Those look just like the Akindynos that turn up over here in Tokyo.

The they are both Akindynos.........

What I meant to say was that I think they are both akindyos. :)

The larger one has the peach colored face usually associated with akindyno with adult coloration.
The smaller one could be many things, but is certainly consistant with akindynos juvenile coloring.
Here is a pic out of Morgman's gallery of some 2 month old juveniles.

The smaller one is definatly darker brown and the fins are all a dirty washed out yellow apart from the pelvic fins which are very slightly darker. I am happy with them.
I am dropping them into hypo over the space of the weekend what is the desired s.g. again? or even ppt.

ok ok ok. ill concede the larger one looks akindynosish. but the smaller one...chrysopterus. ill get a picture of my baby chrys for comparison.

good luck with them both, regardless!

Juvi's are sometimes very hard to determine what species they are.

What does this look like?

they look like the akindynos i get from aussie (only the ones i get usually have bright blue) and look nothing like chrysopterus (atleast the ones i get from marshalls and xmas)

akindynos get big and mean! careful with what you add with them.

zemuron: do you know which nems they are predominatly found in in vanuatu? Is it bubble tips?

here they are now.
the little one is now brown and yellow (not black)
and the large one has darkened, so they are almost the same colour.
