I am liking my decision to trade the anemone's placements. The one that is now in the tank has established a foothold in a crevice that it is not likely to wander from and it tentacles, especially near the edges are almost completely inflated.
The smaller half that was moved to the basket seems to enjoy the extra light and is also having better tentacle extention and density.
No pics today. I have work to do that I have been putting off for a week and takes too long to edit and post the pics.

Two questions I've thought of ...
1) Do you think you might have preferred to use a scalpel such as this one instead of the filet knife? Or would still prefer to use the filet knife to make the incisions?
2) How soon did the carpet begin to slime up when you went to remove from the tank? I know when I've tried to move my magnifica, it would slime up immediately that I would get my hands on it to move it, whereas my carpets that I have moved (only gigantea and haddoni) have generally not been too bad in this regard. I wonder how much it depends on how they are attached however, such as out in the open versus intertwined into a cave or opening in a rock.

Actually I think I would have used something like this and extended the blade all the way out:
The tissue was just too deep to use a scalpel or razor blade. I would have had to make 4 or 5 cuts in the same place just to get down to the foot. Since the anemone reacts to the cuts, it would be difficult IMO, to make 4 cuts over the same spot and avoid hacking up the cut line.
Mertens attach a little like magnifica. They are pretty easy to dislodge once you get it started and they don't find every little crevice in the rock to wedge their foot into. They are not quite as out in the open as magnifica, but nowhere near as bad as BTAs.
It slimes a little when you start messing with it, but when you begin to lift it out of the water it makes an incredible amount of slime. As soon as it has to support its own weight, it becomes very difficult to keep the anemone in your hands, it is so slippery. I put it into an empty 5 gal. bucket to see if it would release a little water. When I took it out, the slime left in the bucket was an inch deep. It hadn't released much water at all.
I took some new pics in a few hours. I need to walk the dog and get some work done first.

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm going to setup an isolation tank for my carpet and when that's done I might try to ante up the courage to try this as well. If I do so, I'll for sure post a thread in here too. But it will be weeks away as I have a lot of prep to do. Anyhow looking forward to the next round of pics.

I've got some good news and some not so good news.
The larger half is doing great. It is now eating mysis. It is even puffing out its stomach tissue to eat. The column has come up and closed the mouth. The anemone is sort of in a heart shape.

I had a little mishap with my basket anemone. The sump went low on water and started pumping air. This usually isn't a big deal, but for some reason the anemone got a lot of air trapped in its body. I moved the anemone to the tank in hopes that the air would move up and out and that the clown would "massage" the anemone a little. I was actually a lot worse than this pic looks.
The air was not able to diffuse out of the tissues and I figured that I needed to get the air out since it had been in there about 24 hrs. Sometimes the air would go into the tentacles and sometimes it would just gather in the edges of the disk. I decided to take very sharp scissors and release the air from the pockets in the anemone. In some cases I cut tiny holes in the edge of the disk, in other cases I cut the tips of the tentacles. I figured it couldn't be any worse than cutting it in half. So far I seem to have relieved most of the pressure. The anemone doesn't look great, but I have this strange feeling that it's going to be OK. At least it doesn't want to float to the top of the tank anymore.
