So I finally got my Nikon D50. It is the body only so I went to the store and bought a lens. I have 10 days to return it if I don't like it but so far I love it. But I still want to know if it a super crappy lens or good for 100 bucks.
Here it is http://www.wolfcamera.com/product/251664942.htm
But I got the one for the Nikon of course. Was it worth the $100 or not? thanks

Ok. Thanks I guess I will stick with it.

I'd return it and buy the Nikkor 50mm f1.8 AF-D for the same price... :)

you can get it only for just over $100.00, and IMO, it's the best bang-for-buck prime in nikkor's lineup.

you won't have the zoom of the 28-90, but the lens will be much sharper and much faster. A great lens for shooting portraits and fish. I assume fish are your primary target, correct?

If you're looking for a walkaround lens, try the nikkor 18-55mm II AF-S. It's about $150.00 and much nicer than the Qray/Sigma.

Oh, and I don't buy from wolfecamera unless I have to...

edit:doh! I forgot to say, congrats on the camera! :)

Thanks. I guess in that case I'll stick with the camera for maybe another day and then return it, just to get used to the camera. Will I be able to potograph zoanthids with good deatil with the Nikkor 50mm f1.8 AF-D? Because with this lens I can get pretty good and sharp pics with the Qray. Oh and thanks.

nope, if it only has one focal length listed, i.e. 50mm, the only "zoom" you'll get is from focusing. So no.

I have a canon 50mm 1.8, super sharp.

I guess we should wait for a flood of pics now huh? :) Good luck.

Thanks. I still need to get a memory card. Well I boroowed my dad's and it can only hold 1 pic becaue it is almost full.
But here's the one.

Not too bad eh?

edwing, it does look good so far. Haha, but get yourself a memory card. It's kind of an essential part of the system!

They tend to be expensive, I was sort of reluctant to hand over the cash.. Well, some places seem to be way over priced anyways. I know the quality of them varies, but the price seems to range over $100 for a single card. eBay had some ridiculously cheap ones if you're into that.

I never cared this much about saving a few bucks until I started buying corals last year, yar..... Really I need a job to justify the spending :)

I usually buy my memory at mydigitaldiscount.com. I've yet to have a problem with a flashcard so don't be afraid to get an off-brand to save some money. You want a fairly fast card- maybe 40x or faster. You don't need a super fast card though because your camera processes [writes] data slower than the capability of the card in most cases. Each "X" in the speed rating of the card stands for 150k/sec so a 100x card is capable of 15mb/sec, which is far faster than your camera. You may appreciate that speed a little bit if you use a card reader to transfer the data to your computer but only to a point.
I just looked at mydigitaldiscount and they have some great cards (Transcend and Ridata, the two brands I use most) on sale- 2g for less than thirty bucks!

Wow. That is a good deal gregr. That is where I will buy my card for sure.
Nice shots TheVillageIdiot. What camera do you have?

lol edwing, i said it was the d50, just like yours. :)

Heck, I just pick up the 1GB CF cards from Staples when they have them on sale for $20. I really need bigger size cards but for now I've got about 5 of these 1GB and can get about 57-60 RAW files from my D200 on one card....about 130+ in JPEG Fine mode.

Initial shot from that Quantaray lens doesn't look too bad in all honesty. I would put it through some more shots in various conditions aside from just tank photos to make sure you are happy with it. If you are then I suggest getting a UV filter (better to replace a scratched filter than scratched glass) and the lens hood. I'm a huge believer in lens hoods....not for tank photos but for everything else.

HAHA. Sorry I see where you said the camera type. I had just woken up. lol
Thanks for the advice VoidRaven. If I stick with the lens then I will get those items you mentioned. I'm pretty happy with the lens I have to say. I may stick with it and buy the Nikorr lens VillageIdiot was talking about.
When I wen to buy the lens I was going to buy the kit D50 lens but the store had it for over $300!!!!!
