I hate my skimmer!

I have a biocube hqi and it came with an oceanic skimmer which just crapped out! I want to get a good skimmer that isn't crazy expensive. I just want it to fit in the first chamber or fit behind the tank comfortably. Any ideas? Maybe around $100? Possible?

how much space do you have to work with?

Not too much space, the tank is probably 3 inches from the wall. I also don't know the dimensions of the first chamber. I just hate skimmer prices! Anything cheaper but good?

Really, I don't think there is much use for a skimmer on these when it's so easy to do substantial water changes. and if you have a hob skimmer you'd loose the clean look that the biocube gives. JMHO

eshopps. they have new cone skimmers too. I love my psk 200 though even if it is pretty big. The cone skimmers have a smaller footprint.

Honestly? No. And is it going to fit? Why didn't you go with a skimmer that was made to fit that system?

In any case, very small skimmers dont typically work all that great. Its hard to make a skimmer that small do anything.

Oh no! I have heard so many good things about them. It's the size rated for 20-75 gallons I believe and it's HOB so it should fit. I didn't think it was that small.

I'm not that familiar with the biocube. Isn't there a certain size compartment it needs to fit in?

Well the hqi doesn't have much of a lid so just the pump goes in and the return goes back in. It just hangs on so I don't have to worry about it fitting in a compartment. Is it a good skimmer?

I see. That should work then. I thought it had to go in the skimmer compartment. Its not my favorite skimmer, but again, nothing HOB that small is all that good either. Hopefully it will work well for you. Be sure to let us know!

Never owned a remora, heard they were ok but need adjusting more than some others.
I believe people are able to fit a tunze in that tank, can't recall model, but tunze does make good small skimmers, that would be my choice if it works.
Check nano forum as well for tips/ideas.

I thought the RD was kind of cool since it was made for the biocube

Did you get a Remora or a Remora Nano? Thinking about it more, you can probably get a bigger skimmer hanging off the back than what would fit internal. The Remora may not be a bad way to go.

Its not the nano it's the regular I guess. It's big IME lol. I hope it works well. But anything should work better than the oceanic skimmer

Yeah, hopefully it work out well for you. Be sure to post back when you have it installed.
