I need advice! My B &W clowns laid eggs

Following along. I am in a similar situation. I was miserably unsuccessful at my first attempt to raise the B&W fry last month. I haven't bothered trying again because it is literally too much work. You need a lot of time on your hands to do this. I'm thinking about trying again so am interested in seeing what you do. I do want to recommend that instead of putting the fry in a 40 breeder, I would get a smaller tank. For the initial part, I think a 5 or 10 gallon would be best. Even then, I think keeping the tank only half full is advantageous to you. This is to make sure you can provide enough rotifers for all the fry. The larger your tank, the more dense rotifer population you'll need. Good luck!

Thats a great point. I should have used a smaller tank, but I dont want to move them again. I remove some of the water. here is another egg shot. Whats great about a hobby is that it leads to learning new things. I have NO camera skills but I keep tinkering with it. Maybe I can improve my photography skills.

The parents look great! Good luck with the eggs. I like your close up shots of them. Did you use marco lens?

Thanks. No its just a standard lense that came with my camera. I would like to improve my photography skills. In this case the subjects were difficult to photo because of the position of the eggs.

BTW, they are hatching as I type!

Here is a couple of fry pics. I only ended up with about 25-30 fry. I think my biggest mistake was I transferred the eggs out from the display tank into the breeder tank 3 days early. I'm happy to get some fry. Hopefully they will thrive.

Awesome. What are you feeding, your water looks pretty clear.

I'm feeding them rotifers. im not sure how clear or green the water should be. I have some BBS eggs being delivered tomorrow. This fry raising business is hard work! I must have had some losses last night becuase I'm only counting about 15-18 fry. The frogspawn was in the tank until this morning when I took it out. I wonder if the frogspawn ate some fry or if they were just not healthy. Anyway, the remaining fry look good. They have fat bellies. looks like momma clown is getting pretty fat. I wouldn't be surprised if she lays more eggs this weekend or early next week. I broke the huge frogspawn up where the clowns host. When I put it back in the tank with them, they looked so happy, it was funny. the smaller pieces of frogspawn along with the tile that is now in the tank should make removal a much easier process. I now have a better idea of what the eggs look like before they hatch, so I'm hoping more success next time.

my guess is some definetly became food for the lps i had a breedang pair and man i tried like 5 batches and dropped some coin and i got like 8 fish outta like 400 fry lol i gave them to friends and they are all alive and doing well i had breeding yellow tail damsels too..... lol they were awsome coral food as thier fry are insanely small free tank food every 7 days gotta love it

When you move them out from the parents i would average out how long they incubate for before starting to hatch then move them at the last possible second when the male isnt fanning the eggs thier numbers on survival drop fast.....wht are you using for filtration in the hatch out tank? sponge filter?

I agree with you about when to move the eggs. For the first batch, I moved them on day 6, but they didn't hatch til day 9. I might wait til day 9 depending on how they look.

As far as filtration in the fry tank, well... Im not. Its just aerated. I was planning to get a sponge filter in a few days. Should they have it on day 1?

Any suggestions about sponge filters? I'm not familiar with them.
