I found a 150g Oceanic RR tank for sale on craigslist and I'm going to pick it up tommorow morning. The tank comes with lighting (with 600w icecap ballast and the HO flourescents), titanium chiller, protein skimmer, tank, canaopy, stand, lots of baserock, a bucket of insant ocean salt, heater, sump, plumbing pump, backup pump, etc etc etc. I'm so excited, and cannot wait to get it home. Well, I'll have pics tommorow after I get it home. Only things I know that I need to buy is sand (does anyone know where I can get some some marine sand for cheap?)

Adam,
You can get really cheap sand in Florida. All you need is a 55 gallon drum and a shovel. Possibly a gun in case any law enforcement agents see you stealing sand from the big blue. Oh, and maybe an extra set of hands. That is where I come in hand, plus I will bring a gun too. Just kidding buddy...CALL ME!!!!!!!!!Maybe I can get you the hook up.

Hey...it's EX Pet Market Place geeks Pee-Wee. I think I got a fair deal on the tank. I am paying $1200 for the entire setup (like I said it has a titanium chiller, UV sterilizer, etc etc) so i think it is fair. I don't want "cheap" sand, just less expensive alternatives rather than all live sand.

Live sand isn't really necessary. Put live rock on top of new sand and it becomes live in short order. I use aragonite, which pretty much all of the LFS's sell, including Petsmart I believe. Some folks will have some for sale cheaper on here from time to time.

so if I go steal sand from the "beach" in Lake St. Louis, as long as it's touching live rock, it will become live?

Sweet.

Oh and Doug, pencil me in for that trip to FLA. Zach is going in Dec. but I can't wait. We are filling up a U haul with all of the rocks and sand we can fit in there. Oh and I am bringing back a dolphin for the 55 gal.

You could throw dirt from your back yard in there and it would become live with something....probably not what you'd want though.

Seems to me there was a mineral/composition analysis done on a certain sump item that ended up being the same as a mix of backyard mud and aragonite sand. And yet it still sells for a fortune a couple years after the lab analysis was published! So you're not that far off with that comment. Just have to get into the mud below the regular dirt topsoil!

Should of posted this last week, Last Sunday I threw out two huge buckets full.
I got tired of running the 29 and keeping everything alive until someone came to pick it up. It sat there since July, tank still running, keeping it alive, But no one came and got it. I had three people say the wanted it. But never should up. I needed my 29 gal for my QT.
Other wise you could have had it for free.
2 - 10 gal buckets full of southdown live sand. and about 40lbs of LR.

Man, that sucks. Oh well, life goes on. I picked it up yesterday morning (after only about 3hrs of sleep). Plumbing is gonna be a whole other issue. I have to figure out where everything is going to go, silicone the sump I got in one crack to prevent leaks, and all that good stuff. I have to plump from the left side of the tank, below to the sump, the to(in no order) a 5ft tall UV sterilizer, little Giant pump(1200gph), chiller, and the back to the center return. I'll be asking for help soon.
