To me, this isn't about whether to teach my child not to go with strangers....of course you teach them that. It's not about the odds against a child molester surfing a reefing board and taking the time to snatch that kid specifically.....I do teach my children and I don't think the odds are very great of someone snatching her because of my avitar...BUT....I had my daughter's pic as my avitar because she's cute and I love her. However, there is nothing that says reefers can't also be child molesters. I absolutely don't want to have some child molester fantasizing about my daughter. I did not NEED to have her pic on here...so I removed it. When it comes to these things, I prefer to be safer than sorrier....

I agree, Just because someone keeps a reef don't mean he's not a pervert.
A few years back I took the wife and kids with to buy something from a member and nearly got robbed or worse. Since then I very perticular how I involve the kids in my hobby.

i do not believe that only those with pictures posted on the internet are abducted....give me a break. there are pervents live on every block....look at the sex offenders registery.....you have a a chance of your kid getting abducted while playing right in front of your own house. I think there are plenty of sights where these pervs can see pic of kids that i can't imagine they would come to a sight like this searching. i think you are a little over exagerating! JMO

I have people over here pretty regularly from RC. I myself have no concerns about this, but talk to my wife. Do you really think that only upstanding individuals like reef tanks?

If you don't have kids your opinion in this matter kinda doesn't count, sorry. You have no pictures to post, and no worries about POSSIBLE repercussions. And trust me, your attitude changes after you have kids. I never figured it would be so affecting.

I would never post a pic of my kids, or my wife.

I dont think the purpose of this thread was to tell us that people are surfing and looking for sites like this, but more so that someone who is A. a perv and B. into reef keeping and just happens to be on this site and would usually keep their "perverted activites" outside of this site would maybe see somone's child, wife, or even male in a picture on this site(and you have to remember these people are sick in the head so seeing a picture on the net is spontaneous and not really premetated, but after they see the picture and there is an interest then their actions can become premetated) now you have a perv who not only has an intrest/ sick attraction to a picture but they also have something in common with you so they can very easily use this as an in.
I mean no offense to anyone with this comment but if you dont think it is probable to happen on this site then that only make you that more voulnerable......


With that said I hope none of this happens to anyone or their families here, I dont think there should be negative comments on here towards Chuck as all he is trying to do is take precation for the saftey of others on this site.

As you stated, it's just your opinion......but MY opinion is that if I can reduce the risk by 1/1,000,000 by removing my daughter's pic, then by all means, I'm going to remove it. As I see it, it does me ABSOLUTELY no harm to remove the pic.....and removing her pic does her no harm either.......
