I wanna get certified this year

Wow... Went quiet in here when we all became buddies. :)

C'mon, Blackthunda... Give. Tell us more about it. What was it like experiencing scuba for the first time? What about your first time outside the pool? Did you choose the right handed or the left handed tanks?

Blankthunda: As a new diver myself, I have a couple of questions for you..?

1) Which certifying agency did you go through -- ANSI, NAUI or NCAA..?

2) What depth were you certified to as an OW..?

3) How deep were each of your checkout "boat dives"..?

4) How do you know that the Eel performed a complete Figure-8 and not a Pirouette..?

got certified through PADI as that was the most accesible round here.

they informed us that the OW recreational dive limit is 60ft which is what im certified for although where i saw the eel and ray we wnt to 72 feet since there was so much current on the top of the wreck we had to go to the substrate behind the stern of the wreck. while i was waiting for the other 5 people to go through thier excercise i did a fin pivot and the depth was 72'. the check out dives were 2 35' dives, 1 45' dive, and 1 "60'" (although we went to 72') foot dive, and i know the eel did a figure 8 because as he wrapped around me his head zoomed past the front of my mask while his tail was rubbing the back of my fins.

I almost locked this thread earlier, but than it seemed everyone got back to playing nice. However, it didn't take long to turn south again :( Now that it seems you are all back to playing nice, lets please keep it that way that so that I don't have to lock the thread.

I was wondering when that was going to happen. :) At times I had wished you had, but now... Glad you didn't. :)

Warning taken... :) Thanks for not locking it.

I really don't want to be involved with a thread that got locked.

Wow. I'm impressed.

There's no such thing as right or left handed tanks. I was just messin' with ya.

I guess it could be argued that the left side valve on a twinset (doubles) is a "left handed" tank... But my question was really just a buzzkill. :)

What impresses me is that you'd say, "I don't know what that is." Seriously. The more you're in the sport, the more you'll see people who talk like they invented scuba. I've actually had people tell me exactly that - that they invented it. Seriously. I'm sure you'll see that too.

Sounds like you had a pretty awesome set of dives.

You'll run in to all kinds of characters in the "sport" - at least, I have. Jerks, nice people, lovers, haters, fighters, and pacifiers.

Welcome to the family. :)

Someone previously noted that my words were harsh and rude, curt and neandrathal... Whatever the deal was, I hope that you and I can get over it and take it from here. I promise, I'm not that bad of a guy.

Well, at least you can't say that you didn't receive a dramatic initiation. :)

Page 5, anyone?

8 more posts to turn page 5 - 7 after this one (25 posts per page).

...Then Blackthunda will be the proud new owner of a 5-page post. :)

I wanna know more about his dives - what was going through your head the first time you breathed underwater (I assume it was in a pool)? Who'd you end up picking as an instructor? Would you recommend them?

Is that like the infamous "skyhook" or "board stretcher" in construction language? LOL

7 more?

Lol... Yep. Like rotating the air in your car's tires. :)

I think you're seven... This one's six. Five more posts and we're on page five. :)

Whoops. Black's post messed up my count - I think this one's post number four... Three more and we're over the hump...

I'd only call it if it begins to lightning. Rain's no problem... It's actually kinda cool being underwater and watching the raindrops hit the surface.

Two left. :)
