Ice Storm No Power

My power is back on. Guys, get a hold of Matt, he is letting people tank their corals in and put in his frag tank as a last resort. BTW, I tried w/and w/o the surge, they wouldn't fire.

steve, let me know if i can be of any help! I have room in my tank i can hold coral for you. 480w should be enough light to handle anything you've got including your SPS. i didn't lose power for a single second. Willing to do what i can and will frag off anything you need from my tank when your power situation gets fixed and you get your tank back up and stable.

saddest thing to see go was your six line :(

Call me you have my numero. and if you need a generator, we have a few down at my store if you don't have any at the warehouse. I can hold one for your if you need.

I now have Steve's stuff safe at my place. I'll do my best to bring it all back to good health for you :) I'm gonna do a water change tonight and see how it does ;)

Don't forget to stock xfer some h20 to me! Have fun tonight btw :D

Shaar - I just wanted to thank you again for taking my old sump fulla corals - I'll run the water first thing I get home - so I can get it to you Monday.
Now that I know my things are safe, I'd like to pass on a few things I've learned: of the three things I thought I really needed to get my tank (heat, lights, and circualtation), I emphasized the getting the heat back when maybe the lights or circulation were more important. I threw blankets all over the tank and I think I may have "suffocated" it! I kid you not gang, when I got my skimmer hooked up it pulled out almost 3 gallons of skimmate!!!
This has to be one of the more frustrating things that has happened to me...
Just so you all feel even more sorry for me, I took my desktop computer to a friend's so I could get my financial records back up to date and pay some bills - and it looks like my PC's power supply or switch is out - and I cannot turn on my machine. :loooong sigh:
Once again, Steve, I totally appreciate your help - whatever manly/buddy - compensation (beer, high fives, head butt, knuckle-love, cheech&chong special, etc) you require- you'll have!

Seeing as how it looks like my losses were mainly LPS, Mushrooms and softies - I may try to do a straight up SPS dominated tank "next time"

Looking at your corals tonight before i shut off the lights (which happened to start melting that piece of eggcrate btw lol), it seemed that your mushrooms were doing well and opened up again, and your sps was looking good as well. What is that bigger bright green disk in one corner? that thing opened up like crazy after i gave it a water change!

Also i am in love with your pendant lol. i will save up some day and get a pair of them for sure! at least metal halides for sure even if they aren't pendants.

Also that sucks about your computer. i may have a 400w power supply somewhere around here thats brand new if thats your problem.

Pootie isn't eating, probably not that big of a deal, he did just have 7 days of stress, but he is swimming actively around and around and around and around and around and you get the point.

Also don't worry about any compensation, just wanted to make sure you were doing alright and doing what i could if needed.

If you're planning on doing an SPS tank, I can help take LPS off your hands lol.

And before i end this novel, where'd you get the frag magnets? i'm definately up for ordering some, or if you make some i'll buy ;)

The coral (i think) you're talking about is a cup coral, i think.
I'll hunt down the invoice for the magnets once I get my PC running again (I save those things) - but I am sure I found the link to them here on RC. I was upset that the size I got was the largest you can get...
I have one "bare" one that is in my 110g - I will send it to you with the water Monday - I INSIST you keep it as compensation - it is the very least i could do...
Pootie has been doing nothing but swimming circles since day 2 (i hope it's not HHE or anything...) I saw him take a few bites yesterday.
I'm sure you've thought of temp by now, but you may want to see what temp I set my heater at - as I think it was jacked up high - and I forgot to lower it.
I'm going to move the nano (yeah - the badaSS goby i got at fewell's MIA since night2 of no power) Into the living room. It had just a handful of zooanthids...
Adios!

I just got back on line w/my tanks after yet another power outage! Empire sucks!!!!!! Anyway, again, Matt will babysit anyones corals while he has room. Right now he is watching John Kellys stuff. He is more than welcome to do it.

Well, I have now joined the "No Power" club. It looks like CU was working over on the next block and caused our transformer to blow. I walked over and told them which one it was because they can spend a whole day trying to figure out which transformer on the circuit has a problem. They told me to call city utilites..........of course, you can't get through to them . Since the proportion of CU trucks in our neighborhood is about 1 to 5 when compared to the upper crust neighborhoods, I loaded up my goni's and some other corals and took them to Fewells. I imagine that our power will be out for quite a while.

THANK YOU MATT!!!

PS. Panera bread company has free wireless internet. :)

I am more than happy to help any of my brethren out during this time of need. I just got power back at my house last night. Hopefully it will not be short lived.

help out

help out

i can help out if someone lives close to wheatland about 60 miles north of springfield have power and if it does go out again have a welder to hook it up here lost a little before we got the welder but was able to keep it to minimal loss just let me know if someone needs a place to store anything

Steve's tang didn't make it :( according to him, it only ate once in the last 7-8 days, and it took its pass into the big aquarium in the sky today at my place :( poor thing.

Well, it looks like several of us lost stuff. I know you guys have had some group buys in the past. What are the chances of getting a group buy somewhere to replace all this stuff? My tank is finally balancing out (doesn't smell like death anymore) and I did a water change yesterday. I want to start restocking and any money I can save would be great. I figure I lost about $1000 worth.

Here's an update on that little frag I made from one of my dying SPS corals. It actually survived. I can't believe it. The whole coral was dead except for this one branch so I guess I snipped it just in time before death overtook it. So I actually had 4 SPS survive. :)

I went home to find that my whole house smelled like death lol. I went downstairs and the 25 gal rubbermaid steve gave me full of his stuff and his water had a thick layer of slime on top. beneath the layer of slime was the most god awful stench of death I've ever smelled in my life!

I set up my spare 10 gal, filled it with all of his rocks but 3 of them, set up the seio, and put a simple HOB filter on the side. I filled it with water directly from my healthy tank, and mounted one of his pendants from a small ledge hanging over the 10 gal.

Finally after 4 hours of work, all his old water is out of the house, and whats left of his corals are safe with a ton of flow and light. And to top it off, the water is finally clear and i can see through it :) His corals seem to be trying to come back, i can see bright greens and oranges and purples coming back, so thats a good sign.

Whats really sad is that I've seen his 110g(?) tank several times, and everything left of it is now in a 10 gallon tank.. :(

Our power is back on again, but the utility crews are still working on the lines in our neighborhood. Our tanks spent a day and a half at 60 degrees, no light, and no flow. None of the snails, crabs, or soft corals died, at least not yet, and most of my hard corals, two fish, and a couple of big softies are at Matt's. Julia and I pretty much left the tanks in a mess when we yanked the stuff out to take to Matt's. I spent most of this afternoon removing the live rock and 100lbs of sand from our 75g for renovation. I shut down the 29g and the 55g has all of our live rock and soft corals in it.

Has anyone heard from Tim Brill, John Stephens, or Shaun Elder?

EDIT: I knew I was forgetting something.......
My big Sebae is now living at Fewells. ............at least I hope it is still living after being hastily moved :(.

Sorry to hear about all the losses for you guy's. I was worried for all the little specimens right from the git-go. We were very fortunate here, only lost power for a couple hours the second night.

I do have some things that can be fragged, and will do so this weekend, that way they should be healed up and ready to go to a new home by time some of you guy's are ready. I'll let you know what is available when ready.

Live water and sand are available any time!

Sorry again, let me know if I can help,

Tim

p.s. John & Shaun are alive and well!!!

Tim, good to hear everything is well over there. I would have hated to see you lose anything! All is well here, no power loss.
