1ml per gallon for up to 1hr with tons of aeration? The male didn't respond well at all to the bath, I know the fact he was 2.5-3 days into the disease didn't help matters. What's your recommendation for a fool proof way of ridding the 125g velvet now? Bleach and freshwater, followed by air drying? I will let the media dry out or buy new.
 
Thank you everyone for your response throughout this. Kind of sad to say but it makes me feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one to fail at this. I thought my practices were pretty sound... I was wrong

The food thing is....very highly unlikely. I've been in the hobby for 8 years now, running a LFS for a few of those years as well, and it'd be the first time I've ever heard of that happening. Especially coming from such a reputable vendor.

I am not sure if Brian runs copper in his FO system or not TBH. All the tanks, however, are set up BB with PVC. So I suppose it is possible. Just ask him. A lot of stores do it though.....

He doesn't run copper at all. Oversized UV, dr Gs medicated food and baths when needed. Doesn't use CP since he has without good results.

Did you select them in person or had you ordered them online and shipped to you?
 
I find your title a little troublesome. I don't think it was Larry's food that killed your fish, I think it is your husbandry. From this statement you made it seems that you have a habit of killing your fish. It is wrong to put the blame on Larry and his food. Larry takes unprecedented steps to ensure he provides the best food possible.

"Well the scribbled is laying on its side breathing heavy so it's a goner for sure the male is still swimming around so we will see if I can save him. Still haven't seen the juv which is never good. I lost my bandit and crosshatch male in June to velvet I believe judging by how quickly the fish went and one after another"

So sorry this happened :(
In early November my entire tank got nuked by velvet, lost everything in the span of 4 days. Since then I've just been assuming EVERY new fish has velvet and I treat them accordingly. I'd rather annoy them by dosing meds they might not need than have them die from a disease they were hiding.

Thanks we all know that now. LRF has far larger problems than the title of my thread like causing bloat in masked angelfish. My thread isn't going to hurt Larry any. I didn't say that it came from LRF, I was simply asking since that was the only thing that changed in the tank before this happened. Also husbandry??? You're right 3 angels in a 125g QT is bad husbandry and they certainly wouldn't be ok in a 625g together. I'm not sure you are offering anything with your statements except ignorance... If not please elaborate on your "bad husbandry" statement.

Dmorty, i'm really sorry to hear this but you are not alone. My tank was decimated twice despite all the QT measures I took and if you have read my threads, fallow periods did squat for me. I started over by bleaching and drying everything. My new procedure although probably not popular is giving all new arrivals a 45min Formalin bath followed by a 45min bath in Methalyn blue and so far i have to say everything is working out nicely and I've never had healthier fish. I'm also limiting my purchases from one source only and nowhere else. One last thing which i know most will say will do nothing against disease control is go bare bottom and I also run 100% of my return through a large UV followed by once a month running my system through a diatom filter. Don't give up and I know you will find success again. As for Reefwise, I've been there many times and know Brian and yes they do not run copper in their systems.
 
Tanks are all bare bottom QT included. Fallow period did nothing!?? That really scares me. I have thought about getting a UV but I was under the impression most thought it was useless

My last fallow period was over 4 months and withing 2 weeks of adding 2 healthy fish that went through 2 months of QT they both died from what looks like brook..so yeah for me fallow periods are a waist of time. I did not run a UV in my system before but not anymore, i'm sticking with it.
 
Guess I will look into a UV for the 625g and my 125g QT. I have to be certain that the 625g is free of all diseases and I would really not like to dump 850g of water down the drain and start over. I will if I have to though

Ha no but the Sera Siprorax I took out of the 125g sump the same day the fish went in is in the 625g now. I put the fish in and took the media out immediately because I realized I F-ed up. Now it's much more apparent how stupid that was. More importantly I have to figure out how to make sure the tank is disease free. I want it to be up and running for at least 2 months before adding anything, obviously since this all happened a lot has changed

Husbandry is more then tank size. You try to put blame on Larry for your fish dying. You then mentioned you have a history of killing fish even before Larry. I was pointing out that maybe it isn't the food and something wrong on your end.

I hope you figure out your problem and whatever fish you still have make a comeback.
