My friend at Aquarium concepts called me today about a mantis they found in a shipment of live rock. She thinks the rock came from Fiji but isnt sure. I went to the store and picked up the little guy as well as a few more ricordia and GSP. Anyways I hnkw she is a female, about 2.5 inches from eyes to tail. She has purple around the edges of her clubs and white meral spots. Im thinkin a G. Chiragra but im not sure, any help?

An unusal set of characters that I can't readily ID. My best guess, and it is only a guess, is Gonodactylellus viridis. However, I don't know of any G. viridis records from Fiji.

That was my other thought...I havent seen her once since i put her in the tank last night. Ive got a piece of silverside infront of the main cave entrance, if shes in there hopefully shell grab it. Ill try to get some more pictures when I see her again

I would have said G. viridis as well but if even the doc isn't sure... well, wow. Anyways, your other pics look like the raptorial appendages are pink... am I seeing things?

The pictures make them look a little pink, but thay are green with purple edges. I wish I could find her in the tank to snap some more photos, but theres 30 lbs of rock in a 30 gal tank...i dont think ill be seeing her for a while.

Whats the behavior of G. Viridis like? Are they very active?

I tossed a piece of silverside in there last night, but I think the bristle worms got it...it was resting on a rock this morning almost completly picked clean, ill pull out whats left when I get home in the next 30 minutes...
