i was told derasa, just want to confirm

Ephraim, that sounds very fair. I paid $60USD for mine. One thing, though... it looks like it's not getting enough light. It could just be your camera settings, but can you tell us more about your tank conditions? If the person who sold you this clam did so thinking it was a Derasa, which do not require nearly as much light as a Maxima, then you'll need to make changes very soon to your equipment.

i am using t5ho with parobolic reflectors, i have 4 across 12", tank is 24" deep. So i will have to move it up most likely eh? I remember reading that maximas like to be in sand, but can i put it on the rocks further up? what are you seeing that indicates it is hungry for light?

Mbbuna: Since the scutes are worn out, does that suggest that it's wild caught? Also, does that suggest that it's a reef dwelling clam since it would be brushing it's shell on rocks when it opens? Just seeing if that makes sense. So, would Croceas prefer living in the reef structure instead of sand? (I will read the links after this, but I just wanted to know if that conclusion is correct.) :)

im saying that thats a wild clam just because of what it is, a teardrop Maxima. that mantle pattern is not be cultured. these clams are being collected (AFIK) from Vietnam. Crocea clams are also always found up on the reef

Gotcha, I didn't know that teardrops were only wild. I was just seeing if my reasoning is correct just so I can tell if I'm buying a wild caught clam. Thanks for the information and the articles Mbbuna!! :)
