Local Petco Thread

Ellisville Petco had a green carpet and LTA today. Neither looked good. Not much else worth mentioning.

Got this at Fenton Petco a couple weekends ago. Lime green Pocillipora.

That looks pretty good! last week my local one in Tacoma had a big sale so the pearl jawfish I had been looking at for 2 weeks finally came down to a price almost reasonable to me, But they had a beautiful duncan polyp also on sale so I basically picked up the jawfish and the duncan for less than the normal price for the jawfish.

We did our fish store circuit on Saturday night which was mostly a bust, we're seeking a second ruby scooter blenny but we did come across a beautiful Trumpet frag and another duncan for $12 so I grabbed it.

Just discovered this thread! I have a local Petco, and only one other LFS in my small town. I have gotten a nice toadstool leather and a couple Duncan heads at great prices.

Sadly, since the great crash of 2018, I have bough no fish from Petco (I stupidly didn't quarantine an algae blenny from Petco, and killed every fish in my old 210 from velvet, even my clowns.) I will keep watching this thread to see if things are looking up for their fish.

IMO, Petcos are really hit and miss depending on who their aquatics manager is. I've only been to two in the St. Louis area.

One has a fantastic saltwater section with a large variety of healthy livestock and even a dedicated frag tank.

The other, sometimes has healthy livestock but, just as often, the livestock looks horrible. The last time I was there, every inch of sand was covered in cyano. The livestock variety at this store is always very limited.

I might have said this elsewhere in this thread but my Black Storm Clown came from the Petco in Edwardsville. They have clowns like that labeled as "Premium Clowns" for $39.99 so I regularly check what they have in like that. Picked up him and a Midas Blenny. I did QT them but they've been with me for nearly 2 years now.

Totally agree, I probably have 10-12 (maybe more) Petco stores, all less than 1 hr from my home! Only a couple that I would buy from!

I called the Petco near me and had them order some bumblebee snails. They order twelve and I picked them up the day they arrived. They didn't even have time to print out the price tag. It's been a couple of weeks and I don't think any of them have died. And they put a nice dent in my Vermetid snail population

I originally posted this in the local club forum but, it seems to have become a board-wide discussion. So, I'm going to move it to the Reef Discussion forum. I think it's interesting to hear about the differences in the Petcos across the country.

I have two Petco within driving distance. One I bought a lot of good stuff from. In fact, I just got two cleaner shrimp for 60.00 yesterday. I often see cleaner shrimp on sale for 45 at the two other LFS in Corpus Christi.
The other Petco I never go by except when I have to pick up salt that I order only and pick up locally, and the salt is there for me to pick up.

my wife and I visited the petco in our town last weekend. Of course, our new tank hasn't arrived yet so we are not in a position to buy anything but we wanted to look and wouldn't you know it... it's the first time in a year that their SW supply was super impressive lol

we actually have like 4 petcos within a 30-45 minute drive of us, maybe 5 or 6 now that I think of it. generally they all are pretty yucky but there are two where they take fantastic care of their fish department. one of them has had one fellow managing the fish for like a decade+ and he takes fantastic care of his fish.

Just got this little Lady from Petco for 60.00. I am trying to get a harem started for a friend. I already had two also from Petco a few months ago. Got her upon arrival even before she see Petco water
