does anyone know if i should trim the tips off that have died or just let them be

Can't ID anything but what looks like the aiptasia. Not good. I would take measures to kill them. Glad to hear your gorgonian is doing good. Still sucks what happened though. I hope you showed him what cleaning off the algae that gets caught on it really means. lol

green guys are a type of macro algae. Harmless IME. Sometimes I prune them, If they are within reach.

2nd 2 pics look like aiptaisia anemones to me. I'd try to get rid of them. Peppermint shrimp, kalk paste, inject with base type fluid (b-ionic, can't remember if it's part 1 or 2 that's the base)

Can't help you with the polyps on the gorg. My instinct would be to let it be.

The gorgonian is a non-photosynthetic type and generally speaking without a tank setup for one it will slowly starve to death over a period of months. In my opinion they should stay in the ocean

are there any supplements he could feed his tank to improve it's survival???or is it a lost cause from the git-go??

ive had it for over 8 months....
feeding it filter feeding stuff

havent had a single roblem with it untill recently because of algae and my dads ignorance

I love how people read bits and pieces of posts and then decide to respond. Is it hard to read and understand someones post?

I agree, second pictures looks like aptasia, which are considered a pest anemone. I'd get rid of them if I were you. The first picture looks a bit like Neomeris annulata, which are a harmless algae.

If not Aiptasia may be Majano. Either way, it is a nuisance and hard to control if gets out of hand. Can kill these with Joe's Juice or Aiptasia Control by Blue Life, whichever it is. BTW, great looking gorgonian!

The first picture is a type of bubble algae...i have heard it is bad but i have had others tell me no problem and i have never had a problem with it multiplying or causing a problem. Emerald crabs will take care of it. DO NOT pop the bubble because the spores will get into the water and then they will multiply!!

The second picture is aptasia. I am currently going through the same problem and if they are small enough then peppermint shrimp will do the trick. If they are bigger than a pencil eraser then shrimp wont touch them but Copperbad butterfly will. That is if you want to stay natural and not cure with chemicals!!

btw...yellow gorgonians are great looking in a tank...good job!
