ID please- purple algae.

It's the color of coraline in person, blends well. It grows in dense clumps, sometimes larger clumps can be easily removed. It's not slimey. It falls apart when pulled from rock, almost crumbles like its brittle. Seems finer than red wire algae I've had, clumps more and is not dark red. Fish don't eat this stuff. It's not cotton candy. Not turf. Invasive and doesn't need high nutrients, in sps tank.

Thanks

I have something like that in one tank, although mine is darker red. I found two things that would eat it, a seahare and a salifin tang.

The trouble with the seahare is it need lots of food and when it has grazed down the problem algae it begins to starve. The tang seem to be keeping it down and I can keep the fish alive with supplement feeding.

The seahare grazed it down fast and then I returned it to Inland Aquatics and got the tang.

I have a purple tang that won't touch the stuff. I have had darker red wire algae that tangs seem to love, this isn't it. I'll get a pic of it on the rock later on. I was gonna try mex turbo snails.
