Perhaps a mini carpet (not maxi mini)? They dont get much larger than a silver dollar and the DO split.

Yea there have been a couple threads about them in the last month. Live Aqauaria sold one as a red Balinese mini carpet. Not sure about the origin, but they are usually pretty reliable.

Take a pic of the base but id have to agree with the maxi mini carpet people here.

There is only one other anemone i know that glows red under actinics and its a mertens and you def dont have one of them.

Ill get a pic of the fit this weekend. Ive had over 40 maxi minis in my care and i can tell you without a doubt that this is different.

I have to agree. I saw a bunch at SeaDwelling Creatures and they don't appear to me to be maxi minis or mini minis. Neither are they gigs or haddoni.

The ones I saw were about the size of a quarter. I wonder if they could be some sort of corallimorph?

Just to clarify, s. tapetum is NOT the same as a maxi mini...in this regard I don't disagree it could be a s. tapetum. But a maxi mini...it is not. These mini carpets are not as tough or robust as maxi minis, and do not get as large. Maxi minis can get up to 5-6". These, much smaller, like a silver dollar.

I just got mine yesterday,I started a thread red maxi, which I know now it isn't.But still real bright red, about quarter size.

FWIW, I've had both maxi-mini's and the small greyish ones that never get bigger than a quarter, but reproduce very rapidly. Which one is actually S tapetum - the maxi-mini that can be a few inches across, or the small, quarter sized anemones?

Don't mean to hijack, but I am confused as well...

Maxi minis and "mini" minis ARE Stichodactyla tapetum
The minis usually get no larger than a 25 cent piece.
Maxis can get very large (10" diameter) but are usually 3 -5" in diameter.
Sprung and Shimek got S. tapetum from me.
