I have assumed this is some kind of Seriatopora - but with thicker branches than most - birdsnests I have had before have had much thinner branches - the photo is not the best - the color is a bit deeper shade of pink than shown (and the little streaks are bubbles, and I see a tiny sponge piece just fell in! - this coral photography is trickier than it looks!)

It is a very good grower - and survived my "thermal misadventure" which killed most of my corals - while away on holiday a fan failed and temps went way up - it is the only SPS that survived.

Thank you very much - the reason why I wondered is that most corals I have seen labelled S. hystrix have much thinner branches. Does it have a wide variation in morphology, or are the thin ones mislabeled?

Hystrix have thinner branches. Think this is Seriatopora Stellata or Seriotopora Acuelata.

S. Hystrix has MASSIVE morphological differences depending on the conditions its kept in. Yours more closely resembles colonies I have seen in the wild. Most aquarium colonies look stringy/ gangly. You can't assume species based on growth form alone.

Hi texgv - I see from one of your other posts, showing your excellent tank, that you have a very similar one.

And, I see your tank photography is much better than mine!
