Anyone seen one of these? What is it?

Looks like an isopod. Hopefully it isn't a parasitic one. If so they latch on to fish and suck the blood out.

I actually found a few of them on a new acro I got (not on the coral itself, but the rock it was attached to) . I have them in a seperate container. If they are good I will add them to the sys, if not I am gonna dump them. Gonna post on the main board and see if anyone knows.

Rick, They look real close to what Flat worms look like to me! I'm not positive but use caution, When In doubt chuck It!!!

Bill, Their not flat worms, I know too well what they look like. I think they are isopods like Mike said. I think they are a pest according to Melevs site. I think I am gonna chuck these guys. Just did not wanna get rid of some good fella's like I did the other day ;)

I found a picture of his big brother

Some of the isopods are actually beneficial but that one looks like a crinoid one which are the parasitic ones.

I agree I have been researching the Cirlanid ones and they are looking very similar. I am kinda worried a little bit, because I did not dip the piece that had them on it. I did do a good look and did not see anything else on the rock, just the 2 big ones that came off and 1 little one. Hopefully it shoul be ok. I tossed the other culprits.

IS that thing real?

Yea! That are crazy looking. I saw some on Discovery where they were feeding on a dead whale at about 2000' in the ocean.

OK Rick got It, Looks like Darth Vador of the Seas.....

LOL

OMG..check this out about them from wikipedia!

Giant isopods are of little interest to most commercial fisheries owing to the typical paucity of catches and because ensnared isopods are usually scavenged beyond marketability before they are recovered. However, in Northern Taiwan and other areas, they are not uncommon at seaside restaurants, served boiled and bisected with a clean lateral slice. The white meat, similar to crab or lobster in texture, is then easily removed.
