Ideal amount of turnover through fuge?

What is the ideal turnover rate through a fuge? I heard it should be just enough to keep chaeto "rolling". If that's the case, that'd be quite a bit no? Also the slower the more pods you'll have in the fuge... but what's the use of the pods if they don't get into the display? I guess there's a balance. Any thoughts?

i've heard the rolling chaeto theory, and while that might be ideal in nature chaeto grows way to quickly and usually fills whatever space it is in to continue "roll"

in my 32g tank, it used to roll when it was a small baseball sized piece, now it's completely filled the entire fuge area. I'm thinking of cutting it down so it will roll again.

I have about 760gph going through the fuge right now... too much?

It serves it purpose either way, you should cut it down anyways just for the fact that if it can't grow it's really not doing anything except serving as a 'pod condominium unit.

i guess so.

I have million of stars, pods, and baby cerith/trochus snails going crazy in that chaeto =P

Come to the next bar meeting Elite, I'll pretty much butcher my chaeto population, just going to toss it into a 5 gallon bucket and tell people to bring their own bags to get what they want :) I probably got 2 cubic feet worth of chaeto :)

I will be at the meeting.. Have to pick up a lot of stuff at the meeting..

I hate meeting.. Have to spend $$ everytime I go  :D

Art, I personally feel thats too much water movement for a fuge. I'd do like half that personally. Heck, mine gets less then a single turn over, and I have to beat the pods and cheato down with HUGE sticks

Never heard that cheato theory. It's spot on for gracilaria, but cheato?
