Hi all

I want to add the last fish for my 170g display mixed reef. It should be an eyecatcher. My plan was to add a Scarus Quoyi but this fish is getting way 2 big for my tank imo.

Do you have any ideas which one could be the super eyecatcher?

Tank mates: Moorish Idol, Tomini tang, p. navarchus, scotts fairy, c. exquisitus, pair green chromis, pair red mandarins and a pair zoramia lep.

cheers,
steven

MI or wrasses of some sort for a eye catching fish. The Quoyi still trumps any fish you plan on replacing it with. My Quoyi gets the most attention in my tank from people who come over followed by my orange shoulder, but that's probably because he is 7" long 2.25" thick and has streamers starting on his tail and he is still his juv coloring

I know my MI is already an eyecatcher :) But I want to add the last "big" fish. The question is which one fits into this setup and is also a stunner.

As I thinka nother tang will bring aggressivity into the tank I want to add something like another angel which do not harm corals. What do you think about a potters angel?

A pair of dwarf angels would be really nice, I'm hoping to get a pair of potters myself. What are your tank dimensions?

Red Sea regal angel would be my choice, or a Chaetodontoplus angel like a meredithi or blueline.

If cared for properly, MI will get pretty huge. I saw one that was 9" not including the streamer.

I have my MI now for 3years. And he did not grow fast. But he is healthy like ****!
What do you think about a goldflake?

I had 2 goldflakes and both picked at coral - not so much the SPS, but they could kill some LPS and clam mantles. Awesome fish, but risky.

Ok.. maybe a juv. goldflake? I do not have clams. Only a few Euphillyas and a bubble.
But tell me more about the watanabei :-)

Planktonic eaters and totally reef safe. Beautiful. Not cheap. Pairs are the best - male and female are sexually dimorphic. You might be the only guys within hundreds of miles to have one. People who have been in the hobby for years sometimes don't know what they are when they see them.

Here is an awesome old article about the Genicanthus:

Large angels are a risk. There is no getting around it. I have had some that are OK, but also some that I could not wait to catch. I stay away from them now (mostly).

Harlequin Tusk's are certainly eye-catchers, active, peaceful, great colours and totally safe with coral. (not safe with most inverts or much smaller fish)
