Hello to all!

I'm new to the Saltwater hobby but did have two 40 gal tanks with Discus and Angels but had to sell as we did not have the space here for them. My wife bought me a 30 gal tank for my birth day, only size we can fit now :sad2: , and I'm finally setting it up. Doing a FOWLR and curing the live rock in the tank.

Been reading here and now hope to learn more with the many question I know I'll have. Here's what we have so far:

30gal FOWLR with just live rock curing. Marineland 200 Filter, Powerhead rated for 50 gal. Marine testing Kit and Hydrometer, 200watt heater. In process of researching/purchasing a protein skimmer and smaller tank for acclimation/quarantine, etc all suggestions are appreciated.

Looking at only a few fish since the tank is small but will be great learning experience.
Can't wait to get into the new house and go BIGGER! Thanks to all in advance.

Hello everyone I am new to this forum and have no idea how to use it as well so any help would be greatly appreciated email me or sum. I really have a lot of questions I have a 55 gal. tank with about 15 to 20 lbs. of live rock, two clowns, yellow tail damsel and red shrimp and one of them jaw fish that dig with its mouth. I have a hang on the back filter protein skimmer and a maxi jet powerhead that I just bought a modification kit for that will allow it to push 1600 gph. I have some xenia and some leather trees not really sure what the name of them are just yet email me if you can help me in any way logi2theq@gmail.com Im just really slow at this whole forum thing. I also was wondering if my one power head is enough I just got that kit and am trying to find the best placement for it. It is blowing the hell out of my xenia HELP HELP HELP

Hiyo all!! I guess I'm one of the new guys! I look forward to reading and learning a lot about the saltwater hobby here and look forward to sharing my trials and tribulations with everyone! I have had a couple of smaller aquariums over the years, a couple freshwater jobs, and a couple saltwater jobs.

I recently lost my 55 gal FOWLR to a broken center support that almost pushed the sides out onto the floor. So in the interest of making my wife cringe and just "Having to get a stronger tank hun..", I went with a 90 gal. So, I now have a nice 90 gal corner overflow on a nice stand set up for a FOWLR system right now.

I have been reading and researching the last few days looking at building my own acrylic sump (melevsreef.com is fantastic!) because the one I have is just not cutting it and the bio-balls... I need say no more. I also have to get a new PS, which will go in the sump, and an RO/DI setup since I beleive my tap water is infecting my tank with silicates and the hated brown diatom!!!!

Hi everyone, I have been having dangerous thoughts about going over to the other side. Its been a few years since I kept a fish tank. Currently all the equipment I still have is a 10 acrylic flat back hex, RO/DI filter, couldn't bring myself to let that go besides my silly tropical fish only friends that were gifted with the rest of my equipment wouldn't appreciate it, light canopy for 2 18W PC flourescents. I think my electric water hardness tester is around here somewhere and I know where the calibration fluid is and my CO2 tester.
So in the mean time I am studying/researching and planning. I am in no big hurry. Im thinking of setting up an invert tank and maybe adding a fish several months down the road. I have never personally kept any marine setups before and I know I still have alot to learn. I want an easy keeping low maintainence setup, k.i.s.s. Ok go ahead and laugh at that. I know that I will have to buy a quarantine tank and all and don't mind investing in good equipment for the long run but I also want to keep cost down.
I admit I am pretty clueless when it comes to inverts and compatability but I am learning fast.
Any and all advice would be appreciated.

p.s. a little about me, I live out in the middle of nowhere desert with a pack of big ol k9's. My SO confessed to me in our early days of dating that he wants a 300g tank so I'm letting him think that it's all his idea.

My name is John and I'm from Sydney, Australia. I've had aquariums in the past. Started off with the humble goldfish bowl and moved to cichlids and up until 2 years ago, I tested the waters and went marine which was sadly cut short by a hitch-hiking mantis shrimp feasting on most if not all my fish.

Disheartened, I decided to close up shop but recently re-ignited my interest in the hobby however this time I plan to take it slow and calculated.

I set up a RDSB in my 13 gallon fuge and I have Chaeto in the display. Is it worth having a DSB, or can I fill the fuge with macro, snails and Mysid and still have 0 nitrates? You guys just have such beautiful tanks... I gtta be a member

Update:
It's been 3 days now after recieving my 1st shipment of LR and LS. It's worse than i thought and read about for the cycle of the tank. Not once but twice a day water changes (partial). It was only .50 ppm on my amonia this morning, thank god it is starting to settle down. We found feather dusters,snails,hermit crab, 2 urchins and a crab hitch hiked. They are all doin well. Maybe it will be ready for our 2nd shipment of LR and the cleaning crew by sunday, but no rush. Hopefully it wont cycle as hard this round.
Will keep ya'll posted on progress. TTYL

I figured I would stop in and introduce myself. My name is Curt, I live south of Kansas City Mo., I am new to the saltwater hobby but have had several freshwater aggressive species tanks. I recently aquired a marineland 90g 48x18x25 with a single corner overflow. no water yet but im still a long way from that. It had a steel stand but i am currently in the process of building what i feel will be a much stronger wood stand (hey Im picky). I hope to be a very active member here as well as have a TON of questions!!!!
So far it has been extremely addictive setting this tank up!!

so i have my 37 gal tank for about a week now i have rock in there sand and crushed coral excedra..iam very confused as to what the heck to by first as to ive stock,,,,and wether i need a protein skimmer and brighter lights..i have a f18t8/840 bulbs now and a bio weel..and filter h,,so if i plan to do coral and fish what should i consider?

Hello fellow reefers, my name is Justin and I am a reefaholic! I live in Northwest Arkansas and have a family of 5.

I have been playin around with freshwater tanks for 6 years now and love it (soooo relaxing). Like many others I had plans for building a reef tank but was getting it part by part, until just a few days ago.

I stumbled across the DEAL of a lifetime on a certain "list" that alot of you use. Their I found someone selling a 180 complete and stocked for $800, so I had to find out if he was for real and sure enough he was. So now my plans have changed just a bit and I now own a 180 reef tank all set up, and I mean SET UP.

I am in the process of cleaning and setting up the 180, good times ahead.

My Son and I started a 14g Biocube one month ago and are loving it. We are trying to go slow, and my son has showed pretty impressive patience. We rushed in to too much CUC, and after some die-off are now patiently waiting until we add fish, maybe another month from now.

I am going to solicit advice on fish selection in the "new fish" thread, so come help us out there!

Do you have live rock and sand? If not, take a look at TBS- Tampa bay saltwater. Richards website is very informative and his packages are out of this world..see testimonials tbsaltwater.com I'll be getting my second part this week. I had a skimmer on my 26g but is not required.:wavehand:
