Hi all,
I signed up a while ago but haven't done much as of yet. I already have a 6 gallon flu-val edge but I am moving up to a 46 gallon bow front. As soon as I get around to it I will start a thread of my tank.

Hey RC, My name is Justin and I just moved to Mesa, AZ from Minnesota... Purchased a 125 Gallon loop system down here and just working on stocking and deciding what to go with. This is my second tank as my first was a 65G Oceanic. Tank has medusa controller, reactor, and Octopus skimmer, 29 gallon sump, 3 250w halides. has about 100lbs of rock right now (looking for some more with alot of purple to help spread) Crushed coral bed, 100 snails, hermits, ect... it does have some corals that came with it, chalice, zoes, feather duster, gsp, but I am debating on going predator tank or reef? Any pros or cons to either?
Not new to the site, but still new to saltwater.
About 7-8 years ago, the wife and I wanted to get a fish tank for our living room. She preferred the "prettier fish", so we went to a LFS and....well, you can guess. Imagine the perfect set up for a beginner---now imagine the opposite in every respect. That's what they sold us. A few months later we sold the fish and the tank.
Fast forward to about 2 years ago. We bought a small 10g for our 7 year old daughter, and started a freshwater tank. About 3 months ago, the last 2 fish died, so we bought a couple dalmation mollies. Uh Oh. Not long after, we found ourselves with 15 growing mollies in a tiny tank. "Let's get a bigger tank!" we cried. Well, the wife didn't like the tank/stand selections at Petco and asked if there were "real fish stores" nearby. I took her to "Aquarium Arts" (plug), a LFS that deals mostly with saltwater. She RAN towards the 125 reef ready tank and custom stands and decided then and there that we were not only getting a 125, we were going to try salt again.
This time around, I have the benefit of years of developed patience and the wealth of information from this site. Before we even buy the tank, the wife and I decided we are going to plan everything and do it the right way.
Anyway, although we haven't even begun, I feel obliged to post in the introductions. Thanks in advance for any questions I'm sure to ask!

Hello RC my names Jeronimo most now me as JR or Jae I've been in the hobby for 3 years 1 freshwater and 2 saltwater. Since I have started reefing I have just absolute love for the hobby border line addiction, lol. My tank is a 29 biocube that I am in the process of upgradeing to a 90 cube. Lookin forward to becomein an active member on here as I am in my local forums

Name is Danny. Have been wanting a salt water tank as long as I can remember, so the wife finally took the bait. Were going to start with a 14 biocube, but after we moved we decided to make that one fresh (replace our 35 hex for her daycare), and bought a 29 Oceanic biocube. I just got it setup:
40lbs live sand
53lbs live rock
Recently added:
6 snails (forgot the types. They are not turbo's though).
2 peppermint shrimp
1 Pom-Pom crab
2 Harliquin shrimp (to control my small white starfish issue)
1 Fire Shrimp
Corals:
1 Duncan
1 Devil Armor
1 Pulsating Xenia
My CUC is only about 1/2 where I think it should be. We are going to let the tank settle in a bit and monitor, and then will probably add in more snails, some hermits, and something to stir the sand.
So far, tank is doing good. Checked levels last night, and the only thing that was a bit above norm's was the Nitrite (.3 ppm).
Pictures are attached. I've seen a good bit of hitchikers on my rock. Brittle stars (think I have counted about 5-6 diff ones hidden in the rock. They only send their arms out when I feed the coral.), I have two sponges (you can see the yellow barely in the right side photo. It's on the bright maroon rock). Also, not sure what this tube looking stuff is. If you look at the Devil's Armor picture you can see it. We have since moved the Devil's Armor away from this as I was concerned it might sting it. Also added the Xenia that isn't in any of these shots.
Only thing bad right now is some hair algae on the top rocks, and algae growing on my live sand in the front of the tank. Just wondering how much longer I should wait before putting in the rest of the CUC.

Hi all! My name is Bret. Here is my story. I saw the aquarium at the Columbus Zoo and was instantly hooked. This was about two years ago. I went out and purchased a 55few gallon tank and whatever I could find as quick as I could find. After a little bit of research and lots of reading I jumped right it. Spent lots of money and in my third month I woke ip to a wet floor. I was so fustraited I sold everything and gave up. Its been almost three years and I've decided to give it another shot. This time im going slow and buying the right stuff a little at a time as my wallet can afford. Im more confused now than I was before. It seems like everyone has a different opinion. That's why I joined reef central. Hopefully I can get some good advice which would put me on the right path. I look forward to learning and enjoying everything this hobby and Reef Central has to offer. So far I've met some great people willing to teach me what I need to succeed. Oh just a little about myself...Im a 39 designer working a Macys furniture gallery in Columbus Ohio. Im a big Ohio State fan(I know,I know I feel the pain). Im currently engaged to be married in February. Which is why im on a limited budget. Soon to be wife is very nice to let me spend a little each check. Hoping to have reef up in a month or two. hey everyone, guess it's my turn to say hello. I'm from Lima, Peru, am 25 years old and have been keeping fish basically my entire life. My obsession was so big, I ended up studying Marine Biology at Florida International University. I started keeping a marine tank 2 years ago, fowlr and had my ups and downs for the first 8 months or so, but things have been great now. I'm now starting my 200 gallon reef, and actually am travelling to Miami this week so I'll take advantage of that and get the lighting and skimmer over there. The tank is 2 meters long so I was thinking of buying two 36 inch Marineland Reef capable leds and for the skimmer I was planning on the Coralife 220 gallon. I'm also planning a sump/refugium. So any comments on the lights or skimmer would be great. Hope to start posting pics of my reef project in about 2 weeks.

alright people,i am colin from scotland,i have recentley purchased 3x2x2 and cut the wier out and fitted 2 xaquas and also fitted an alfagrog background on 2 sides of the tank,i am around 8 weeks away from having my 1st salty up and running,i am also thinking about led lighting in the shape of AI sol blues x2 which i know you guy's have had for a couple of years now,just wanted to say hi and now i am going to read a few posts on these units ,thanks all :love1:

My name is Ken from Atlanta Georgia. I have been keeping SW fish only since1986 and get into reef keeping in 1995. I broke down my tank in 2005 moving to Atlanta. I keep myself up to date by following this forum and in the process of building out a 300G DD tank and getting back into the hobby.
Hello, RC I have only been in the saltwater game for about a year, but have taken off with it, as I now have three tanks, a 75g, a 54g corner, and a 20g frag tank. I have my roots like most of you in freshwater, where I did alot of breeding of cichlids. I'll see everyone around, and hopefully learn alot more about this hobby!

New member here and I guess I posted to the Do It Yourself forum when it might have been better here, not sure. Guess I'll leave that up the mods. Anyway about three weeks into this and still planning on the second move of the 120 gallon tank. Please see the following thread for more details:

I hope to keep what is left alive long enough to understand what I am doing. My first water change should be coming up soon if not this weekend. I'll see how that goes, although I am not sure how to deal with swapping out ~20-25% of the water yet, a little worried about that. Eventually I'll post again, as I am starting from scratch and trying to cram a lot of knowledge in only a couple of minutes a day.
