If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi from Canada

Hi from Canada

Hello. I'm from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. (Yes we have some snow on the ground as of about a week ago). I have a 150gal Cichlid/mixed tropical tank, a 45gal tropical hex tank, a 55gal Cichlid tank, two Fluval Edge's, a brand new Red Sea Max 250... still in the box (bought it here in Canada at such a good deal, I had to finally take the plunge into reef), and finally to round off the household... 3 Miniature Schnauzers. Really looking forward to getting into reef, after being in tropical/freshwater for the past 30 years. (Lots to learn about reefing).

hi im ant not really new to the hobbie..been keeping fish of one sort or another for 25 years..just been out of the learning part of it for about 10 years or so ..things have changed a little ...i set up a little 37 cube berlin about 10 years ago ..then opened a race car fabrication business..and let just say my tank didnt get the attension it should have..the stand is starting to decentigrate i have more time now..so i closed off my screen porch and am making it a fish computer room with the 95 gal tank 36 x 24 x25 tank in the wall viewable from 3 sides...should be nice..trying to do it right the first time

i belong to a jet ski forum as well and they are the best for learning..used to be you had to rely on the local shop to learn everything..because of he green hulk.net my jet ski goes mid 90's because of what i have learned there...i have been lurking here for a few weeks..reading catching up on things.. i have had 125 fish tanks 65 gal reef tank among others back in the 90's almost opened a store at one point in my life..

anyway just hi and looking forward to learning and sharing expieriences..

kinda new

kinda new

Hey all, I joined RC a few years back when I was thinking of getting into the hobby but I ended up not pulling the trigger. I've just inherited a 55g tank and I'm really going to do it this time. I've had fresh water tanks off and on but this will be my first attempt at salt. I'm sure i'll have plenty of stupid questions to ask even though I've been reading my tail off the last couple days here.

Justin

picked up a hqi 24 nano cube off craigslist for $25 was going to use as a qt. but the lighting was great and seemed like such a waste to just be sitting there. so here i am thanks for the help im sure ill get

New to Reef Central

Hi all, just joined a week ago and have been keeping a marine tank now for 2 years. New to sps and lps corals so slowly learning as we speak. Here is my tank. Six months old 100 Gal display and a 50 gal refugium with miracle mud.

New 55 Reef

New 55 Reef

Been in fishkeeping since 88 and the bulk of the XP comes from FW. Currently have 2 FW planted tanks and started a 10g marine tank w/live rock and what appears to be macro algae. When the macro algae started it was the size of a silver dollar, now it covers the live rock with is the size of 4x5 in and has many branchings and is doing very. Started with a Green Chromis and added a 6 line wrasse to hopefully keep the bristleworks at bay or at least in check. The live rock also has Aiptasia Anems on one piece and I added an artif cave from the LFS when I added the wrasse so that both fish had a place to retreat to. It picked up an Aiptasia as well. The 10 has been up for about 3 months and was started because I ordered nerite snails and I thought that they would be FW when I ordered them.....whoopsie. 30 of them came in and I wasn't able to get them to a LFS fast enough and decided to start a tank to house them on a temp basis. Kept 6 and gave away 24 with no loss, except for the 1st 2 fish which were an Ocellaris and another Green Chromis I added them too quickly. I kept a 55 previously ages ago with a 350 magnum, with 2 bio wheels and a UV inline.
This go around with a used 55 that I picked up for $50 included an "All glass Mega Flow Sump model 1 with fittings" Black stand, tank and glass lids. My high level plan is to get live sand, crushed coral and hopefully build out the sump with a refugium. Also need to build a hood with SHO lighting providing close to 105 Watts and 75 watts for the refug. After that I want to build up with live rock and then add coral once the tank stabilizes. Fish I'd like to include are the 6 lined wrase, GC, Regal Tang, flame angel. Mandarine and royal gramma. Want a Coral Beauty, but I don't think that's gonna jive with a flame angel. It's gonna be a slow process.:bounce2:

new to saltwater

Hey guys,
Name is Brad, been in aquariums for 7 years now, but this the first time I will be switching over from freshwater to salt. I had done a successful 10gal salty 2 years ago.

After I was told I had t down size my fish tank sizes, I decided to turn my 20gal long into a reef tank, so here I am :)

Hi, guys and girls, Dave from liverpool in the uk here. I have been reading some fantastic build threads on here and thought i must join and be a part of it all. I am about to start my new tank set up shortly and hope to start a build thread myself so any feed back would be much appreciated, i have been away from fish keeping for a long time now and things have progressed so much since then, i have already got many ideas from members threads from here and other sites so looking forward to getting started again.

Dave.

Hello,

I just joined here and hope to learn from you all, and hope to help others when I can. I started reefing about 12 years or so ago after visiting Hawaii. I had a nice tank (180) and did fair after a rough start. I had some family problems and quit until about 3 years ago.

Wanting to get back into it, I saw a 180 system on E-bay in South Carolina going cheap so I drove 3000 miles and wa la, I got back in quick. None of that initial cycling or hair algae.

I have since upgraded to a 240 and use the 180 for a refugium

New to Reef Central <3

Hello All,

I'm new to Reef Central and fairly new to the Saltwater tank world :) I have had a tank up and running for about 9 months now. A friend suggested that I should join here to start reading and asking questions. I find it very frustrating when I go into one of the only local Saltwater Fish stores asking question and each time I have a new chemical and 300$ later. Help please :) :fish1:

Hello everyone, I have been reading the forum for some time and finally joined last week. I live in SE Massachusetts. being retired from a local police department I have time to create and maintain my 90 gal. berlin type system with a nice mix of corals. Lately I have been going for more LPS.. I just love feeding them. Love the pictures and will learn how to post them soon,I hope. Up until now the only person I talk to is my local store owner so it will be nice to see if anyone from my area is on board. C U at the forum

Hello, Cory from southbend IN. New to this game. bought a used 75 gal. about 3 months ago from LFS. Seems like ive been doing alot of stuff wrong already by reading everything around here, but learning alot. I would think it should be done cycling by now but nitrates are still around 20? am i wrong about this?

Hi all! New here and figured I would say hey!

I'm gonna be starting a nano reef soon. I already have plenty of questions lol, but I'm confident there are people here that are more than willing to help. I look forward to getting to know a good portion of the members here, and discussing our fish and tanks and set ups as I have done in the reptile industry as well.

Looking forward to sharing my experiences and learning from you guys.

Just got my first tank

Just got my first tank

Hey I'm sort of new here I had a few posts way back when I had a tank I was trying to start. But life happens and it got put on hold. Anyway this past weekend I got this 180 gal tank. That was complete up and running. I did the move and everything in the tank seems to be doing ok. The tank has been up and running since Saturday. It started out really cloudy and yesterday its looking really clear. Just wanted to know. How long will it take for me to know if every thing in the tank is goin to live or die from the move. And as I figure out all the details of the tank I will have many follow up questions. Any way I'm super excited about the reef tank. I'm in Sacramento, ca and I'm glad I finly got into the hobby
